Blind Cigar Review: Alec Bradley | Magic Toast Robusto Cigar Info

At last years’s IPCPR trade show Alec Bradley announced one cigar ahead of the show, Blind Faith, and one at the show, Magic Toast. No details were given about the cigar except to people that went to visit the booth.

This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience.

The origin of the name comes from a midnight visit to a tobacco field between Alan Rubin and Ralph Montero, a partner in Alec Bradley. Rubin describes the night  as magical, hence Magic Toast. Some of the tobacco in the blend is comes form that field. Magic Toast comes in three sizes: Robusto (5 x 52) — $8.95, Toro (6 x 52) — $9.50, Gordo (6 x 60) — $10.25.

Blind Cigar Review: Alec Bradley | Magic Toast RobustoInitial Impressions

Appearance: 89

“Wrapped in a beautiful, oily, dark wrapper and topped off with a seamless appearing cap, this cigar looks outstanding. ” –Dave W. (mdwest)

Aroma: 89

“There was a nice pleasant aroma to the cigar. I didn’t get any barnyard odors which I find prevalent in many cigars. This stick had a very pleasant slight sweetness to it and I was very anxious to see if the smoke matched the aromas that I was getting, particularly on the dry draw.” –Diana (ArmyRN)

First Third

Flavor: 92
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“This cigar immediately hit notes that I prefer in my smokes. There was a nice molasses flavor mixed with pepper on the retro. Coffee and dark chocolate mixed in and made this a very nice start to the smoking experience. ” –Diana (ArmyRN)

“This cigar lit up with rye grains, black coffee and just a hint of black pepper. Definitely a bit unique. The rye brought a great savoriness that had me coming back for more. The retrohale brought on wood and spice. I was certainly looking forward to what this cigar might bring next.” –Isaac M. (The Nothing)

Second Third

Flavor: 90
Strength: Medium-Strong
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

Blind Cigar Review: Alec Bradley | Magic Toast Robusto

“Moving into the second third, the cigar transitioned into more of a wood note that was mostly noticeable on the retro before. The coffee and the black pepper spice were still there but very far down on the scale. The savory quality certainly stuck around and intensified as the cigar drew on.” –Isaac M. (The Nothing)

“The cigars strength ramps up a bit in the second third, but the flavor profile remains largely the same with chocolate and leather notes fully in your face with every puff. ” –Dave W. (mdwest)

Final Third

Flavor: 88
Strength: Medium-Strong
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“The strength of the cigar is nice but the flavors are starting to get boring with really no transitions or surprises.” –Daniel S. (Daniel S.)

“Unfortunately for me, the cigar just lost everything in the last third. There was no more cohesion, and the flavors totally fell apart. ” –Isaac M. (The Nothing)

Overall Impressions

Draw: 93

“The draw was good on this cigar and didn’t give me any problems. It was consistent and even with no tight or loose puffs noted throughout the entire smoke.” –Diana (ArmyRN)

Burn: 92

“The burn was great! No relights were needed and the burn line was like a razor most of the time.” –Daniel S. (Daniel S.)

Construction: 92

“The cigar remained intact throughout the smoke. There was not lifting or cracking of the wrapper and the cap remained intact. There were no hard or soft areas in the body of the cigar and overall this is a very well constructed stick.” –Diana (ArmyRN)

Overall Strength: Medium-Strong
Overall Body/Complexity: Medium-Full
Experience Overall: 91

“I thought this was overall a very good stick but I believe it could be even better if the flavors of molasses, cocoa, chocolate and leather had remained more pronounced. I enjoyed it but wanted more from it. I would definitely smoke this cigar again but would save it for a time when I wasn’t longing for bolder flavor.” –Diana (ArmyRN)

“Unfortunately the flavors of the cigar were underwhelming for me and I became bored with the cigar. However, I would give this cigar another chance because of the construction and draw.” –Daniel S. (Daniel S.)

“This is tough. How do you score a cigar that was so great for much of the time, but fell flat at the end? The first two thirds of this cigar were great, borderline outstanding at moments. In the end, it did fall flat, and that almost made me forget how great it had been. I might waver back and forth a bit, but I would give it another shot.” –Isaac M. (The Nothing)

“If someone is looking for a flavor bomb thats a bit on the high side of medium strength, this would be a good choice. It is a rich and bold cigar that is definitely in your face from beginning to end. ” –Dave W. (mdwest)
