Blind Cigar Review: Cornelius & Anthony | The Gent Robusto Initial Impressions

Appearance: 91

“Nice looking box pressed cigar. The wrapper is well rolled with minimal veins, tight seams, and a well applied triple cap. ” –Alan (Eulogy)

Aroma: 91

“There is a wonderful barnyard aroma emanating from the wrapper. It also has hints of wet grass, like the grass after a rain.” –Eric (smalls29)

First Third

Flavor: 88
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“There is a semi-sweet start with this cigar. Primarily there are notes of hickory and cherry. The hickory gives a nice bold flavor and the cherry is provided the semi-sweet flavors. A nice beginning with a nice balance of flavors.” –Eric (smalls29)

“Begins with sweet, mild tobacco notes, and hints of caramel and toffee. A little leather and a touch of white pepper. So far, it’s decent but not great. Requires at least two touch-ups in the first third, a trend which will continue.” –Derek (StogieNinja)

Second Third

Blind Cigar Review: Cornelius & Anthony | The Gent Robusto

Flavor: 88
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“Warm flavors carried over from the first third one word to describe this cigar so far is “fantastic.” Flavors had a touch of spice with the warmth of autumn, even though it’s still winter. Effortless draw and the burn line is staying as close to even as it gets. Little layers of ash developed and I’m knocking them off after about an inch as to not make a mess. ” –Adam B. (Bushboy)

“Unfortunately the sweet cheery flavors have moved into the background and now a bold, smoky, charred flavor. The smoky flavor went bold and near the end of this third has backed off. While the sweet is almost gone, the char flavor is very nice.” –Eric (smalls29)

Final Third

Flavor: 89
Strength: Medium-Strong
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“There’s a little development at the end, but it’s too little too late. It ends largely the way it started, with general sweet tobacco notes, a touch of caramel, and as it warms at the end, the baking spices start to emerge a bit more, adding some character. It ends where I wish it had started. ” –Derek (StogieNinja)

“Final third did not offer any new flavors, however this was fine by me. Finished as it started with warm and toasty flavors with a aftertaste filled with spices. Very nice cigar. ” –Adam B. (Bushboy)

Overall Impressions

Draw: 91

“Draw was great, offering a bit of resistance but not too much. ” –Derek (StogieNinja)

Burn: 89

“A solid burn with no problems or uneven burning.” –Eric (smalls29)

Construction: 90

“Fantastic construction. No flaws or rough spots. Not much else to say, but good job. ” –Adam B. (Bushboy)

Overall Strength: Medium-Strong
Overall Body/Complexity: Medium-Full
Experience Overall: 90

“It’s hard to find anything I enjoyed about this cigar. The level of nicotine was incredibly high, the amount of pepper was so aggressive it was hard to taste anything else; but the other flavors were soap and graphite so it really wasn’t much of a loss. The roll was incredibly loose which caused it to smoke super hot. My first cigar of the new year and if it was my first entry into cigar smoking I wouldn’t have tried one again. ” –Alan (Eulogy)

“Even though this one finished with a bitter taste, overall I still find this a good cigar. The beginning was promising with notes of hickory and sweet cherry, the cherry faded in to the back ground over time moving to a bold and bitter taste. All in all the flavors held for the most part and finished strong and bitter. To me all of this gave the cigar some good personality.” –Eric (smalls29)

“I would definitely smoke the cigar again and recommend it to friends. This thing was fantastic. Medium to a touch over medium. Great flavors. Woody, spice cabinet and fantastic construction lead me to wanting more. Recommend for sure. ” –Adam B. (Bushboy)

“Overall, a decent cigar. Pleasant, but not remarkable in any way. With so many standout cigars available, this just isn’t one I would pursue again. ” –Derek (StogieNinja)
