After a long and spirited smoke-filled journey in pursuit of the world’s greatest cigars, co-founders Luis Gutierrez and Juan Carlos Rojas have teamed with Tabacalera El Artista in Tamboril, Dominican Repúblic to create a collection of master blends that is worthy of their Cuban family legacy. The result of that relentless sojourn is Manolo Estate Handmade Cigars.

Proudly named after Juan Carlos Rojas’ father Manuel “Manolo” Rojas, this new line pays homage to the time-honored Cuban craftsmanship of both Rojas and Gutierrez’s families having hand-rolled premium cigars for more than three generations. The Manolo Estate Cuban Heritage Line includes three premium blends including the Gran Fino Connecticut, Serie 32 and the Heavyweight .

Blind Cigar Review: Manolo Estate | Habano Serie 32

Initial Impressions

Appearance: 89

“Dark earth colored wrapper with several medium sized veins. One vein runs the length of the stick like a rainbow. Double cap on this robusto sized smoke and overall good construction.” –Adam B. (Bushboy)

Aroma: 92

“This cigar has a deep and sweet aroma consisting mainly of compost with some nutmeg notes. The tobacco smells like it may have a nice bit of age on it, which is promising.” –Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)

First Third

Flavor: 93
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“Heavy cream, peanuts, wood & caramel. Burning pretty fast, ash stays on about an inch before I tap so I don’t end up wearing it.” –Mickey T. (irratebass)

“Interesting start right out of the gates. I was able to detect a strong note of black pepper with almost a popcorn like flavor that would persist when the pepper died down. Very interesting combination.” -Kent (Throck)

Second Third

Flavor: 92
Strength: Medium-Strong
Body/Complexity: Medium

Blind Cigar Review: Manolo Estate | Serie 32

“Still have the nut flavor, but now coffee has really started to turn up in the 2nd.” –Mickey T. (irratebass)

“Developing leather brings the bitter chocolate down to more of a cocoa and takes the edge off the coffee. Some oak in the background transforms the savory notes to a woodsy profile. A prefect mix of flavors.” - (McGreggor57)

Final Third

Flavor: 91
Strength: Medium-Strong
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

image4 (1)“It was a shame to see the complexity drop off in a large way. The only flavor I was able to detect was that of leather and all other intriguing notes had disappeared.” -Kent (Throck)

“The final third of this cigar really developed the pepper notes which quickly washed out the leather, leaving predominantly pepper and earth. I had really hoped for something more to develop but it just never did. The smoke continued to literally boil from the cigar, never leaving me wanting for flavor output.” –Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)

Overall Impressions

Draw: 97

“The draw was a strong point for this cigar.” -Kent (Throck)

Burn: 89

“Good smoke production with a very tight ash. The burn-line was a little off on this windless morning.” - (McGreggor57)

Construction: 92

“Short of the vein issue, this cigar was rolled with pride and skill.” –Adam B. (Bushboy)

Overall Strength: Medium-Strong
Overall Body/Complexity: Medium-Full
Overall Experience: 91

“Really good cigar. Draw was a little too perfect and caused it it to burn fast, but other than that flawless construction.” –Mickey T. (irratebass)

“Meaty savory smoke that had all the flavors i look for. Delicious from beginning to end with a fantastic blend of spice, earth and leather. Sweetness afterthought throughout. Can’t wait to pick up more for the humidor. This is what cigar smoking is all about. Bravo.” –Adam B. (Bushboy)

“The balance of flavors from start to finish was near perfect. I could not have asked for more with transitions of savory to woodsy to the softer addition of baking spices near the end. This is one of the best cigars I’ve smoked this year.” - (McGreggor57)

“I really wish that the second third held its complexity throughout the cigar. This was not the case. The end was a bit underwhelming and required a relight. I would most likely not be smoking this one again.” -Kent (Throck)

“For those in the mood for a full, peppery leather bomb, this is the cigar you want to try out. This is a cigar that will hold up to your full body, hoppy IPA beer, or whatever libation you wish to pair it with. I would avoid smoking it on an empty stomach if you don’t have a tolerance because I can see this one leading to a few wobbly knees and green faces. On the main, it is a good cigar, just a bit much on the pepper for me today…Some more diversity of flavor would have been appreciated. This is something I would smoke again, but I don’t plan to chase it down.” –Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)
