Blind Cigar Review: Tatuaje | Nuevitas Estelí Cigar Info

Back before Tatuaje made all their cigars at My Father Cigars S.A., a handful were made elsewhere. Back until 2007, the Nuevitas line was made at Tabacalera Tropical in Nicaragua, now TABSA where Aganorsa Leaf is made. The original line included the Nuevitas and Nuevitas Jibaro, both of which Pete Johnson brought back this year at IPCPR. Now the cigars are made at My Father Cigars S.A.

This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The The Nuevitas Estelí measures 5 x 52 and is priced at $8.50 per cigar. While the Jibaro No.1 measures 5 x 54 and retails for $9, while Jibaro No.2 is 6 x 52 and priced at $9.50. First Third

Flavor: 91
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“Right away i’m greeted with sweet & creamy goodness. Coffee coats my palate, and on the retro I get a bit of white pepper with some baking spices. Strength is right at a medium, and I am really enjoying this. ” –Mickey T. (irratebass)

“A very nice profile is produced, has a nice jalapeno spice on the front end and a very meaty wood and char. Room note is a soft wood as well. Medium in strength.” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)

Second Third

Blind Cigar Review: Tatuaje | Nuevitas Estelí

“The second third has a small build up of pepper that is really rounding out the profile. There is still charred oak and earthiness, but there is a slight sweetness in the background with a leathery finish. The retrohale has the same white pepper but there is now a mineral note that is fighting for dominance. ” –Jeff (ExpendableYouth)

“Fruity spice, mulled fruit punch if that’s a thing, is the primary flavor going on here and throughout the remainder of this third. ” –John A. (Bostoneo)

Final Third

Flavor: 91
Strength: Medium-Strong
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“Still having a great experience here. Semi sweet chocolate begins making an appearance wood still being the main attraction.

I didn’t want to put the cigar down but it started burning my fingers. Great job.  Buy a box” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)

“The final-third has a strong black pepper, charred oak, toasted nut, and earthiness. The final progression in this third has really elevated this cigar in terms of profile and flavor which is a really nice surprise based on the mildness of the first-third. The retrohale has a clean mineral, woodiness, and subtle sweetness to it rounding out the smoke nicely. ” –Jeff (ExpendableYouth)

“Very attractive cigar, and really well constructed. ” –John I. (John I.)

Overall Strength: Medium-Strong
Overall Body/Complexity: Medium-Full
Experience Overall: 91

“The experience was a great one the cigar had a couple draw back construction wise, but it didn’t negatively effect the experience enough to warrant a bad review. I would buy a 10 pack and go from there” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)

“I really liked this cigar. It performed beautifully, it gave me lots of sweet chocolate flavors with a bit of white pepper and some baking spices. It never got above a medium in strength, and I even caught myself a few times looking at the cigar and saying out loud “Wow this is good.” Would definitely smoke more, if not purchase a box. ” –Mickey T. (irratebass)

“Overall, this was a very straight forward stick that was decently flavored. Nothing really wowed me, however it did have a consistent flavor profile, excellent construction, burn and draw. If this is priced right I’d recommend it for a blind buy of a few sticks myself. ” –John A. (Bostoneo)

“Great looking smoke that ended up being a real chore to smoke. Basically really raw, sour, and unpleasant from start to finish. I stuck with it for a full hour. I’m not sure why. ” –John I. (John I.)

“The cigar had a lot of transitions at each third that kept me interested throughout the entire experience. The core notes of charred oak and earthiness was a constant throughout but the introduction of toasted nuts and varying degrees of pepper really made this cigar. ” –Jeff (ExpendableYouth)
