Blind Cigar Review: Warped | Maestro del Tiempo 5205Initial Impressions

Appearance: 92

“I’m a sucker for triple capped cigars. It’s the first thing I look for. This cigar had heathy veins, no cracks or holes & was well humified.” –Jeff R. (JR)

Aroma: 93

“The pre light aroma has a sweet farm/barnyard smell. The aromas remind me of the summers I spent driving tractor on a farm.” –Eric (smalls29)

First Third

Flavor: 90
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“The initial flavors of this cigar were a slight burned molasses and rich, dark roasted coffee. Like the background note of the aroma, this reminds me of a slightly over-done cookie with black coffee…It’s like dessert at the beginning. There is just the slightest pepper zing on the retrohale which is interesting, and adds to the overall interesting beginning of the cigar.” –Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)

“Great mix between spice/pepper & woody/leather/cedar. I also taste a hint of honey. Lots of delicious spice when using your entire palate i.e., blowing some smoke thru your nasal passage.” –Jeff R. (JR)

Second Third

Flavor: 93
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“After the first couple of inches the flavor evolved just a bit and took on a creamy, chocolate milk note that paired quite nicely with the molasses cookie and coffee. To this point, the smoke has remained very smooth and pleasant, with just the slightest hint of pepper through the nose. This really is a cigar that can be retrohaled with each puff and not be overbearing or dull the sinuses. At this point this is a very, very enjoyable cigar to smoke.” –Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)

“Flavors at the start of the second third are quite nutty with a bit of salt on the lips. There is a hint of earth and tobacco flavors underlying. Retrohaling is still predominantly oak, but there is a hint of pepper spice with it. I am no longer experiencing any draw issues in the second third and am really starting to fully enjoy this cigar. Oak starts to take over the nut flavors part way into the second. The flavors are nuts, oak and a tinge of coffee partway into the second. I still sense a pleasing hint of saltiness. Cedar joins with oak and he nut and tobacco is still there but very faint. Smoke and flavor increase greatly towards the end of the second. Rounding out the second the flavors are predominant oak with hint of spice, nuts and coffee.” –Isaac M. (The Nothing)

Final Third

Flavor: 95
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“The final portion of this cigar lost the pepper but significantly picked up the cream and also developed a a slight cinnamon note to accompany the coffee and molasses. This is a really nice finish to a cigar that ended my day…what better way to end a day than with dessert!” –Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)

“Ash falls on its own to start the last third and I can start to notice the nicotine kicking in. It was mild at first but now it is much stronger. Flavors of cedar and oak still played at the front but there was a bit of pepper joining in as well. The woody notes were rather strong, but I could still detect a bit of nuts and coffee from time to time. Ultimately the tar build up forced me to put this cigar down and call it done. I couldn’t cut away anymore without losing the integrity of the wrapper.” –Isaac M. (The Nothing)

Overall Impressions

Draw: 88

“This cigar started off just a little on the tight side, but the draw opened up a bit as the cigar burned, ultimately ending up with a very nice, slight resistance. I can only surmise that the smoke production was negatively impacted as it increased as the draw loosened.” –Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)

Burn: 95

“This cigar burned great right up to the end. It kept quite straight and the ash held fairly well for a petit lancero.” –Isaac M. (The Nothing)

Construction: 91

“This cigar was very nice to look at, and burned very well. If the draw had started as it finished then it would have received an even higher score. As it is, it was very acceptable.” –Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)

“This cigar fired on all cylinders for me. The flavors were not strong, but they were interesting and kept me tuned in from light to final ash. Honestly, this is the first cigar that I have nubbed in quite a while…I’m ready for another one. Highly recommended to anyone who likes dessert before bed!” –Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)

“This is a tough one. Yes, the cigar had some problems in the first third, and it also had an annoying problem with tar build up. However, when things were going right, this cigar was great. In fact, I think it was good enough that I could forgive the faults, provided I didn’t come across these problems again.” –Isaac M. (The Nothing)

“One word: Excellent. From its appearance, its aroma, its feel, the amount of smoke it produced, to its flavor profile…my palate went on a fun rollercoaster ride. I thoroughly enjoyed this blend. Whoever blended this cigar deserves a raise.” –Jeff R. (JR)

“If the flavors would have remained constant I would have given this cigar a better overall rating. It started off with such promise. A sweet smell, a nice taste of mocha with overtones of spices. The bummer was the way the flavors would disappear and then come back back but only in a subtle way. To me this did not allow me to thoroughly enjoy the experience. I still feel this is a good cigar but not one I would buy in bulk. Maybe one here and there.” –Eric (smalls29)
