Smokers will soon be able to smoke a Montecristo cigar as imagined and interpreted by cigarmaker A.J. Fernandez. In a collaboration with cigar distributor Santa Clara Inc., Montecristo Crafted By A.J. Fernandez is the newest version of the heritage Montecristo brand.
The draw on this cigar was a bit tight, but not tight enough to affect the smoke, which is common of most cuban cigar, and lancero cigars. The burn was perfect, never had to touch it and the construction was fabulous, especially holding up like this for 31 years. While this wasn't the most flavorful or complex cigar, it was elegant and nuanced. I was worried before smoking and during the first third that this cigar might have aged out being 31 years old, but she definitely still has some life in her and it was a pleasure and a privilege to smoke such an aged cigar.
This cigar was a great addition to the Epic line from Montecristo, maybe the best yet. I was a big fan of the Epic Craft Cured, a cigar that I thought went kind of under the radar. This is just as good as that or better. The flavors were harmonious and left me wanting more and more. I really dug the caramel sweetness combined with the on an off oak flavor. The burn and draw were perfect the whole time and just added to the great experience. I will be picking up some more of these for myself, I think you should too.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — After the major success of the Montecristo Grupo de Maestros Private Batch, Altadis U.S.A. is proud to announce the release of Montecristo Grupo de Maestros Private Batch II, a sequel to its limited-edition predecessor. “Like the original, we expect this limited edition to sell out quickly and be an aficionado’s favorite. This cigar will showcase the Maestros’ passion and craft, exploiting adult cigar consumers’ palates with rich aromas,” Altadis U.S.A. says.
Altadis' Grupo de Maestros is collaborating with the Plasencia family again to make a followup to their 2014 Montecristo Espada, the Montecristo Espada Oscuro. Like the original release, this is a Nicaraguan Puro. This line extension uses a Habano Rosado Oscuro wrapper instead of the Nicaraguan Habano. This wrapper was chosen by Rafael Nodal, Head of Product Capability for Tabacalera USA. Nodal, Grupo de Maestro Pedro Ventura and the Plasencia family created the blend.
