Prelight

This fat has a nice sheen to the light brown wrapper and a few larger sized veins. The cap is applied well and the seams are great. From the wrapper and foot I get a bourbon aroma that is quite pleasant. I take off a good part of the cap and the draw is still a little tight. The pre-light draw is fantastic, I get tons of leather.

First Third

The first third is quite mild, no pepper. I wish the draw had a little more give to it, but I'm starting to taste that leather I got in the pre-light draw along with some clove. Thankfully the draw opens up a bit and so do the flavors, there is some charred oak now and more baking spices added to clove. This is a pretty classic profile.

Second Third

The burn is pretty uneven going into this one. The flavors are pretty much the same going in as well, charred oak, leather, and some spice. Further into this third the leather and spices die off a little and I'm left with mostly charred oak.

The draw is still a little tight, but perhaps normal for a Cuban and smoke production is somewhat left to be desired.

Final Third

Coming into the final third, I remove the top band and it ends up bringing part of the wrapper with it. Flavor wise it's still mostly the charred oak, but it has turned a little bitter, but not in a bad way more in the form of dark coffee. Smoke production has improved a little bit. It finishes out a bit more bitter and not in a good way.

Final Thoughts

For the most part, this tasted like a , and not the best one I've had. I had expected a lot more from a special edition. The flavors were not all that complex and the transitions were moderately noticeable. Perhaps with some more time this would be something special, but for the moment, I doubt it will justify the hefty price tag it will take to get one.
