Late last year, Aganorsa Leaf re-branded their Casa Fernandez Aniversario Corojo as the Aganorsa Leaf Aniversario Corojo. This is the same concept they executed the year before with the Aniversario Maduro. The boxes and bands were refreshed with the Aganorsa Leaf logo and the removal of the Casa Fernandez name. The Aganorsa Leaf Aniversario Corojo comes in four sizes: 5×54 Robusto, 6 ¼ x 52 Toro, 6×58 Gran Toro, and a 7 ½ x 40 Lancero, all are box-pressed. Each size sells for $13.75 except the robusto which is $12.99.
This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The original Casa Fernandez Aniversario dates back to 2013 when Casa Fernández released a cigar to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the company called the Aniversario Bohème No. 35. The next year, they company followed that cigar up with the the Aniversario Serie 2014 Ares. The line then went on to become a mostly annual release and eventually seeing a maduro version and many other vitolas.

“Attractive dark brown wrapper that is oily and has a fair amount of marbling. The seams are very cleanly done and not easily detectable. There is some tooth the the wrapper as well as some raised veins and bumps. What is unique to this cigar is it is “almost” a box press I figure in the 54 ring gauge range. It has two flat sides, one round side, and one side with a raised middle. It looks farm rolled but is done very cleanly. Overall it is a very interesting looking cigar.” –Kevin A. (Kevin A.)

“The aroma at the wrapper is slightly sour and bready, reminiscent to me of sourdough starter. I really like it, and spent several minutes just enjoying it. At the foot the scent is much sweeter and a stark contrast to the wrapper.” –Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)

“After toasting the foot, I took my first few puffs of the cigar. They reviled a good amount light wispy smoke, that had nice notes of dry cedar and white pepper. “Upon lighting up I am greeted with an earthy charred profile that ends with a lingering sweetness of cream. As I move in further into this fine cigar, the flavors begin to become a lot smoother around the edges, less sharp, and begin to intermingle, creating a wonderful even smoking experience. “The middle portion has given me a significant flavor shift along with a ramping up of power. The tea notes are dropping off and a rich espresso note is taking over…the finish is now much more earthy but not overpoweringly so…amazingly, even with the earthy finish my palate is left clean shortly after every puff. “Getting into the middle part of the cigar, strength and body continue in the medium full range with a heavy smoke output. Coffee, cocoa are now the dominant notes, with a very refreshing hit of black cherry that lingers on the finish. Retrohale is silky smooth, with a little cabinet spice, cedar and black cherry. “The final third brought back some of the dry cedar notes that I experienced in the first third. It also started to develop a slight salty bitterness but their was fortunately no tar on the cap at any point. “From the first puff to the final one this cigar had a very pleasant draw to it. At no point did it have to loose of a draw. Which was a concern when I started into the soft spot. I did opt for a straight cut for this cigar.” –Quinn (quinnpins269)

“Overall this was a good cigar that I would like to try a few more times, maybe a fiver. The cigar started out with a plethora of flavors……like it was just woke up from a nap and didn't know where it was. Just so many flavors all at once with mushroom, cherry, cream, wood, some hay and coffee notes. Then the cigar settled down and decided to stick with cream and cherry notes then finished the evening with earthy notes. My favorite part of this cigar was the second.” –Mickey T. (irratebass)
“Right from the start the flavors set this cigar off on a positive trajectory. It slowed a little in the middle, but came back and finish strong in the end. The soft box press made it interesting to look at for me as well. All in all it was a very enjoyable cigar.
