La Flor Dominicana announced a new cigar just before PCA 2022, Solis. This new cigar is the work of Litto Gomez Jr., son of Litto Gomez and little brother to Tony Gomez, well-known figures in the company. Solis comes from the Latin word “sol” meaning sun. Litto Jr. created and and worked on La Flor Dominicana Solis slowly over the past years during his breaks from college where he spent time with his father and brother at the LFD factory in Tamboril.
This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. La Flor Dominicana had been in business for 6 years when Litto Jr. came into the world. After 22 years later he released his first project for La Flor Dominicana. Litto Sr. helped his son through the blending process while Tony assisted with the art to bring his brother's vision to life. Litto Jr. said that he was inspired by his brothers work on La Nox to come up with the project.
The blend for the cigar uses a sun grown Habano wrapper, Sumatra Binder, and a blend of Dominican tobaccos from La Flor Dominicana's farm in La Canela. Solis comes in one vitola, a 6 1/2 x 50 toro extra. Each cigar costs $12.20 and comes in boxes of 20.

“The cold draw greets me with raisins and wheat flavors. Right out the gate, this cigar is very smooth and creamy so far, and I'm only 1/4″ in. I get hints of chocolate, bread, and cream. “The draw is a little light on flavor with notes of sourdough bread, baking spice, mild pepper, and stone fruit. There is a nice hit of pepper on the retrohale. The draw has a nice resistance but the smoke is a bit thin.” –Alan (Eulogy)

“The second third continues with the same profile of sweet and almonds until about the halfway point. It's at this point that new addition of cherry tart enters the fold. This really creates incredible harmony with the profile which is quite pleasing. What's also interesting is the strength starts to build up here too. “Overall, this was a wonderful straight-forward cigar with a medium to medium plus body, providing wonderful notes of almonds, leather, sweetness, and some pepper here and there. A few touchups were required to the wrapper, however, overall construction and burn were on par with a premium cigar. Clocking in with a smoke time of 90 minutes, you'll need ample time to sit down & sip on this smoke. I'd recommend trying this one out, it may become your new favorite!” –John A. (Bostoneo)

“I'm a sucker for a fuller-bodied and fuller-strength cigar and this was spot on! The sweetness and pepper were a wonderful contrast and the addition of double espresso kept me totally interested. I would gladly put this in my regular rotation as a finish cigar for the day and can easily see this pairing with Barrel-aged stout or high-end bourbon.
