Crowned Heads has announced its ninth iteration of the Las Calaveras line, Las Calaveras EL 2022.
The Las Calaveras EL 2022 features as brand new wrapper to the line, Corojo ’99 Oscuro. The rest of the blend uses a Nicaraguan binder and filler.
This is the second consecutive year that we’ve introduced a new wrapper to the Las Calaveras marca. The corojo oscuro wrapper results in a flavor profile that, in my opinion, is reminiscent of the signature ‘My Father’ style of delivering classic Nicaraguan structure and intensity, while retaining complexity and balance.

The Las Calaveras line began in 2014 as a tribute to those who have passed on in the previous year, and is intended to be a celebration of life and remembrance, as opposed to a mournful symbol of death or loss. Everyyear, the band for Las Calaveras has the initials of four individuals who’ve passed the prior year, one set of initials embossed upon each of the four coins on the sides of each band. Cigars are presented in 24-count boxes, three rows of eight cigars each, as the number ‘8’ is a symbol of infinity as in everlasting life, while the three rows represent the beginning, middle, and end of the cycle of life.
1,500 boxes of each of the three sizes were rolled for a total of 108,000 cigars, and an additional 2,500 4-cigar samplers featuring one of each vitola along with a sampler exclusive petite lancero (6 1/2″ x 40). Las Calaveras EL 2022 sell for between $11.95 and $13.95 per cigar. The sizes areLC46 (5 3/4″ x 46), LC52 (5″ x 52), and LC54 (6 1 /2″ x 54). Las Calaveras EL 2022 is rolled at My Father Cigars in Esteli, Nicarauga, and will begin shipping July 2022.
