Today, Villiger cigars debuted Villiger La Meridiana to the U.S. market. Previously it was available in Eurorpe and has been around for many years. It was originally released in 1998 by Heinrich Villiger as a tribute to some long lost Cuban cigar heritage.
The name comes from an old Cuban factory named “La Meridiana”. It was owned by Pedro Murias, and was once one of the largest and cigar factories in Havana at the end of the 19th century. During the Cuban civil war Murias sold La Meridiana due to unrest in Cuba.
Heinrich Villiger brought back the name because of his love of everything Cuban. During his trips to Cuba, he learned about the name and history of the Meridiana factory, and created a full-flavored ciga to carry on the La Meridiana name in honor of Pedro Murias.
The Villiger La Meridiana is described a Nicaraguan full-flavored puro. This blend is said to have tobacoo aged for 4 years. It comes in 10 count boxes and in 5 vitolas: Corona (5.5 x 42) MSRP: $6.50,
