Davidoff officially announced its latest entry in the annual Zodiac series of cigars: Year of the Rat. This marks the eighth in the series so far and will not be the last. DavidoffYear of the Rat is presented in one vitola, a 6 x 52 toro. This years release includes pipe, pipe tobacco, and accessories in addition to their cigar.
2020 is the Year of the Rat according the the Zodiac calendar, a year that is characterized by luck and wealth and known for its immense likability and gift of intuition. Bright, optimistic and energetic, are those born in the year of the Rat and rewarded are those that know them and who hear their words.
The toro sized cigar uses a dark brown Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Nicaraguan binder, and Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers. DavidoffYear of the Rat is limited to 10,000 boxes worldwide and comes in boxes of 10. The boxes feature the signature red lacquered look of the other Zodiac release cigars.
The Davidoff special edition Year of the Rat pipe is bent billiard shaped and comes with a black case with a napa leather pouch inside. Only 70 numbered pipes were made. They have a draught hole of 9mm are all handcrafted of Italian briar wood and have a silver ring emphasizing the contrast between the black mouthpiece and the wood grain and bearing an engraved Year of the Rat pattern.
The pipe tobacco comes in a red lacquered tin and features a blend is influenced by Asian flavours. The blend uses Black Cavendish and Bride Cut Virginia in combination with Dark Fired Kentucky from Indonesia, Rose pedals and flavored with Lychee. Only 5,000 individually numbered tins are available globally.
The accessories this year include an exclusive pipe pouch and a leather cigar case. The pipe pouch offers features a pocket for the pipe, pipe tobacco and accessories. The pouch is created by an Italian craftsman and comes in smooth calf nappa and bovine suede leather in a combination of grey and russet colors. Only 200 individually numbered pouches are available bear the Year of the Rat icon.
The Year of the Rat leather cigar case protects the cigars and humidifies for up to ten days. Only 250 pieces will be sold globally and all bear the Year of the Rat icon. Cases are made in Spain
from cowhide leather in hazelnut color. The case is sizable to accommodate two cigars up to ring gauge 60 and a maximum length of 8 ¼ inches (21 cm).
The Year of the Rat collection will be available November 2019, and dates will vary by country.
