It’s been seven years since there’s been a new Montecristo from the core line. Now, the iconic Cuban brand has a new size, Double Edmundo, and it’s appearing in shops across the world with a striking new band.
Measuring 6 1/8 inches by 50 ring gauge, the Double Edmundo is the first addition to the core Montecristo portfolio since the Petit Edmundo in 2006. Classified as a Doble in Cuban cigar factories, it has the same parameters as the Trinidad Robusto Extra and is the first Montecristo to show off the new, larger gilded band, which renders the fleur-de-lis and its ornamental elements in gold.
The bands were made in The Netherlands at Vrijdag Premium Printing, where the new Cohiba bands were also printed.
“The use of special printing and embossing techniques will support the unique identity of the Montecristo brand,” said Vrijdag president Henk Nota. “The combination of printing techniques in registration with high gloss hot foil, detailed embossing and secure cutting, really challenges our production team to the utmost,” he said. “But the new design also emphasizes the technical core competence of our company.”
The Double Edmundo is the first of two new releases expected for the Montecristo brand. Global Distributor Habanos S.A. will also be releasing the Montecristo Petit No. 2, a shorter version of the classic No. 2 that will measure 4 3/4 by 52, though there is no official word on its time of release.
