The original Tatuaje La Riqueza came out all the way back in 2008. The line was no longer sold as of 2017, although never officially discontinued. Now, in 2022 the line has made a comeback in the form of a new limited edition cigar in an updated blend, Tatuaje La Riqueza SE 2022. La Riqueza translates to “The Wealth” in Spanish. The cigar was shown off all the way back at the 2021 PCA trade show but didn’t go on sale until March of this year.
This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience.
Like the original, the blend uses a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper with a double Nicaraguan binder, and Nicaraguan fillers, but it ahs been tweaked to be stronger than the original. This limited edition version only comes in one size, a 5 5/8 x 54 with a covered foot. Only 4,500 boxes of 10 were produced and each cigar has an MSRP of $12.00. Tatuaje owner Pete Johnson said that this is only the first step in the revitalization of the La Requza line hinting that a new regular production version is in the way.

Initial Impressions – Tatuaje La Riqueza SE 2022
“Nice dark mahogany color wrapper with semi-box press appearance. Pretty dry wrapper to the touch. Mild amount of veins noted.” –Chad M. (Chad Tchad)
“Notes of sweet tea on the cold draw. Once lit, notes of black pepper come through.” –Sean F. (fullermaine)
“Cold draw starts with strong spicy notes on the tongue. After a straight cut and toasting the foot first draw give notes of medium black coffee, with notes of cocoa, with a light earthy flavor. There is a thick mouthfeel to the smoke. The coffee flavor is really strong during the first third of the cigar to a point that it feels like I am drinking a coffee with this cigar; however, I am just drinking mineral water with this. Retrohale is earthy almost vegetable flavor with very slight black pepper.” –Chad M. (Chad Tchad)
“pretty peppery start to things, but after a little burn in I am sure it will open up quite a bit. pepper and leather are quick to shine. A mild sweet fruit taste comes through something I never thought I would taste in a cigar sweet and a little chalky Lanzones I doubt I will ever get that in a cigar again in my lifetime.” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)
“The strong coffee flavor remains a very dominant flavor that coats the palate. Salivation has really picked up from the smoking experience. Retrohale is a slightly earthy flavor but black pepper spice has picked up.” –Chad M. (Chad Tchad)
“The chocolate notes continue with hints of hickory.” –Sean F. (fullermaine)
“The draw is perfect at the end. It just isn’t a very interesting profile. There is a very weak amount of pepper, baking spice, cedar, and leather. Nothing is really nothing standing out and I wish that there was something to liven up the experience.” –Alan (Eulogy)
“Burn is great but the draw is a little tight. All the notes kind of come all together in the last third they are all still present but in lighter or stronger presents. Leather, lightly roasted coffee, and the sweet Lanzones through the nose. Wonderful cigar.” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)
Overall Impressions – Tatuaje La Riqueza SE 2022
“Started out a little snug but really opened up at the end. The smoke output was fantastic and had a nice creamy texture.” –Alan (Eulogy)
“The burn was really good a little wavy here and there but never needed to be corrected.” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)
“This is a solidly made cigar. It was filled perfectly. The soft box press felt really nice in hand when smoking. The flavors were consistent through the entire smoke.” –Chad M. (Chad Tchad)
Overall Strength: Medium
Overall Body/Complexity: Medium-Full
Experience Overall: 91
“It is weird when something looks so good and performs so well in terms of draw and smoke output but dies in terms of flavor. Everything just feels a bit muted in terms of flavor. I could pick out notes but nothing was particularly robust.” –Alan (Eulogy)
“This cigar is very good and will most likely win some awards. The profile is very complex. The taste from the profile is quite amazing. This cigar is great.” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)
“This was a very enjoyable smoke. The flavors stayed present through all parts of the smoke. The thick mouthfeel was nice. The strong coffee flavor was intense to the point it felt like I was pairing a coffee with this cigar. Other notes of earthy, cocoa and mild black pepper spice came through as well.” –Chad M. (Chad Tchad)
“A great box-pressed cigar. Even burn throughout. Simple notes of chocolate, hickory, and leather. A cigar I’d seek out and add to my humidor. A nice lunchtime stick.” –Sean F. (fullermaine)
