Cigar Info
This is the first Man O’ War line extension in over two years. Utilizing a brand new strain of Cuban seed grown in Nicaragua, a Habano wrapper surrounds Nicaraguan long-fillers. Each vitola comes topped off with a Cuban-style, pigtail cap and is offered in Robusto, Toro, and Perfecto.
Pre-light
This is a beautiful looking cigar. The wrapper is gorgeous, very smooth with almost no veins or seams and the pigtail cap is a nice touch. The wrapper smells very spice like hot pepper, while the foot is more mild barnyard. The pre-light draw is very different, almost confectionary, but more like the smell of cookies baking than pure cocoa.
First Third
The first puffs have a good amount of spice but it’s not overly-powerful. There’s also a very strong charred oak, which is maybe the most distinct I’ve ever picked up. Further in the pepper spice turns into more of a cinnamon and clove and backs off a bit. Towards the end of this third, the spice picks up again in the form of pepper and other baking spices.
Second Third
There are really interesting baking spices coming out in this third, I’m still getting cinnamon and pepper, but I’m starting to get some clove as well. The charred oak is definitely still around and mingling with the spices that are coming through. This third comes down in strength a bit.
Final Third
This third is a continuation of the previous one in terms of flavors. There haven’t been many changes, but it is still very good. The charred oak is a little more in the background and the spices have come to the front again. A bit of leather actually comes out towards the end.
Final Thoughts
This is a very unique cigar, very different from anything else in the Man O’ War line. The others in the line offer a very pointed palate, they focus on one or two flavors, this one is very complex and balanced. The Immortal is not as strong as the Ruination, but definitely stronger than the original line. This is definitely the best of the Man O’ War line possibly sans the Armada. I give this an overall score of 93.
