Blind Cigar Review: Aganorsa Leaf | Buena Cosecha Corojo Torpedo Cigar Info

The Aganorsa Leaf Buena Cosecha, formerly the Casa Fernandez Buena Cosecha, was released at the 2017 IPCPR trade show, but got a facelift before this years’ show. As part of the company’s re-branding to Aganorsa Leaf, they have updated some of the packaging on their products, this was one of the first, receiving new bands and boxes. The inside of the box is unchanged.

This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience.

The name Buena Cosecha translates to “Good Harvest”. The blend uses 100% tobacco from the company’s Aganorsa farms. Unlike most of the their cigars, which are rolled at TABSA (Tabacos Valle de Jalapa S.A. in Esteli, this is made at their SABOR (Sabor Aganorsa S.A) factory in Jalapa, which they acquired in 2016. The Buena Cosecha comes in 20 count boxes in three vitolas, Robusto (5 x 50) MSRP $7.00, Toro (6 x 50) MSRP $8.00, Torpedo (6.25 x 54) MSRP $8.00

Blind Cigar Review: Aganorsa Leaf | Buena Cosecha Corojo Torpedo Initial Impressions

Appearance: 92

“Nice smooth wrapper on this cigar. It has a leaf brown color to it. It is a torpedo in shape and seems to be box pressed. There are plenty of seams, but no veins. ” –Mickey T. (irratebass)

Aroma: 88

“Tobacco and cedar scents come off the wrapper while the foot of the cigar gives off leather and more cedar notes. A cold draw reveals chocolate, sweet cedar, and grassy notes. ” –John A. (Bostoneo)

First Third

Flavor: 90
Strength: Mild-Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“Profile is dark, has some spice that doesnt stay with you long. Good cream in there isnt quit medium in strength. Draw is spot on. Very strong grey/white ash. Burn is performing very well. A touch of honey on the far back end. Profile increasingly gets better more pronounced starting to resemble some pipe tobacco i have had. Ash still holding strong” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)

“On the cold draw I get mostly milk chocolate or coffee with some salt. This cigar is really smooth with plenty of creaminess. There is a big of honey undertone, but it’s overpowering. There is a bit of coffee or tea elements as well to round it out. Strength is at a mild to medium. ” –Mickey T. (irratebass)

Second Third

Flavor: 90
Strength: Mild-Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“All spice is now absent, the cream and honey remain. I do finally manually remove the ash at 2 3/4″ so it doesnt end up in my lap.” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)

“A dry vanilla, woody, and leather notes start off the second third. Halfway through, saltiness, hay, and sweet peppers take me to the end of this third. Delicious. ” –John A. (Bostoneo)

Final Third

Flavor: 91
Strength: Mild-Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“The honey has returned in the beginning of the final third. Still quite creamy, and I swear I tasted raisins. Tea is more in front instead of coffee, so you can see this is a bit of a light bodied smoke. ” –Mickey T. (irratebass)

“””Final third is becoming a bit nutty with some increase in roasted flavor. The strength isn’t increasing dramatically, but it’s picked up a hair.
This has been pleasant from the start, but the finale is certainly my favorite portion of this cigar. Leathery notes have increased, but it’s holding onto the kick of citrus as well. This is pretty well out of my usual wheelhouse, but I’ve really enjoyed this cigar. “” –John I. (John I.)”

“Spot on for a box press and torpedo!” –John A. (Bostoneo)

Burn: 89

“Burn required no corections but was far from perfect” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)

“I was very pleased with construction.” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)

Overall Strength: Mild-Medium
Overall Body/Complexity: Medium
Experience Overall: 93

“Not sure if this is a box worthy cigar, but definitely worth a try. I enjoyed my experience with it and would smoke again” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)

“I really enjoyed this cigar. It was a great 1st smoke of the day, which it was for me. There was a bit of honey sweetness mixed with tea, coffee and just a hint of spice at the very end of the smoke. It stayed cool/light bodied the entire smoke, and never got above medium in strength. ” –Mickey T. (irratebass)

“Much milder than my personal preference, but it’s nice to occasionally get out of your comfort zone. This cigar was a really enjoyable change of pace for me. Not really terribly complex, but there was enough going on in terms of transitional flavors to keep me interested. Hard to imagine anyone wouldn’t find this a pleasant smoke whether a newcomer to cigars or a grizzled veteran. ” –John I. (John I.)

“This was a great medium bodied smoke to enjoy! The multiple flavors throughout made this a very pleasurable smoke, especially the cedar, oak, and vanilla notes that come through on the later half. Definitely box worthy, just hope the wrapper binder burn issues are not a reoccurring theme! Buy me!” –John A. (Bostoneo)
