Casadagli Cigars first showed off their latest line at the TPE trade show in 2021, Casadagli Villa Casdagli. The name comes from the home of Emmanuel and Maria Casdagli. It was quite a lavish house in Cairo that was later called Kersal Villa, the name honoring the family’s Salford home in England, but more properly as Kasr-el-Dubara, after the square of Midan on which it was built. More recently it became known as Villa Casdagli. The cigar officially launched at the PCA tradeshow in July.

The blend is a tweaked version of the Daughters of the Wind Robusto which came out in December 2018. The blend uses an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Ecuadorian binder, and other tobaccos from Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Peru. The cigar is rolled at Tabacos de Costa Rica S.A. in Costa Rica. The company says that the proportions of each tobacco vary by size. The Robusto and Pigasus use two Peruvian filler leaves, while the other two use only one. Four of the tobaccos in the blend go through a”mejorado” fermentation process, or a second fermentation in a pilon to get an additional 2-4 months before being used.

Casdagli Villa Casdagli comes in four different vitolas: Robusto (5 x 52) – $12.50, Pigasus (5 x 54/58) – $16, Corona Gorda (5 1/2 x 46) – $13.50, and Toro (6 x 54) – $15. All are packed in boxes of 12.

“Milk chocolate is screaming out loudly and clearly on the cold draw and it is so defined that I scramble to find my lighter and set this damn cigar on fire as quickly as is humanly possible – I mean, who doesn’t like milk chocolate? Weirdos, that’s who. Upon torching the foot, a medium/full strength pepper spice floods the nostrils while earth and mineral are detected via the draw. Once that spice settles down which is fairly quickly, the mineral joins in on the retrohale and a very light coffee note begins to arise on the draw. “This cigar makes more and more sense with each third smoked. Everything slowly comes together with every puff and by the beginning of the final portion of the smoking experience, the cigar’s true intent is finally understood. The previous flavors are all still highly present, with the exception of that fleeting almond note, but at the beginning of the last third a very pronounced vanilla cake icing appears for about five minutes and it is a true highlight of this cigar’s overall profile. “The middle third of third if this blend would be up there with some of the best flavors I have tasted in a cigar. Chocolate, earth, dried fruit, slight floral hits, and heavy baking spice on the retrohale just made for an indulgent flavor profile.
