J.C. Newman Perla Del Mar Shade Toro – Blind Cigar Review

"I really enjoyed this cigar. While there was nothing earth-shattering about the flavor profile or the way it smoked, it was a great representative of a shade-grown cigar. Gone are the days when grabbing a Connie means smoking air and nothing much more. This is a very enjoyable, flavor-forward cigar. This would be an ideal first cigar of the day." -Kevin A. (Kevin A.)

"I was very excited to smoke this prelight since it looked great with the torpedo cap and perfect construction. The flavors fell a bit flat for me, though. It just doesn't oomph to match the uptick in nicotine around the halfway point and I'm more of a flavor over strength person. It isn't bad but it just doesn't do anything for me personally. "With the exception of the middle portion, I was pleased with the experience. There were periods of very nice flavor and this would be enough for me to revisit this in the future. There was some power in this one so beginners beware…drink a beverage and you’ll probably be fine. Overall this was a nice way to finish an evening." -Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)

"This was a tale of transitions as the cigar changed so much from segment to segment. I love the fact that it never was boring and eased me into the final portion which was large and in charge in regard to flavor and nicotine power. I absolutely did not want this cigar to end and only put it down when I couldn’t hold it due to heat. Absolutely recommended!" -Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)

"This was an enjoyable cigar that took me on a flavor journey. I enjoyed the fact this cigar eased me into its final medium strength profile and kept me interested in its ever changing flavor profile. I would gladly smoke this again and would love to pair it with a dessert and coffee…I think that would hit the spot just fine!" -Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)

"I really enjoyed what this cigar offered. The complexity was there and kept me engaged throughout the entire session. Delicious notes of hazelnut, cedar, and red pepper worked in harmony, along with some orange zest to keep things interesting. Then you add in the parts with milk chocolate at the beginning and coffee towards the end, you're left with a fulfilling experience that I wouldn't mind revisiting in the near future. I will be interested in smoking this again, once I find out what it is that I smoked. " -Doug S. (Unpossible_1)

"Another great cigar that made me want another. Excellent notes of cedar, cherry, tea, peanut, and black pepper. A nice strong ash, even burn, and perfect draw made this a cigar I'd seek out. Great quick morning or late afternoon cigar." -Sean F. (fullermaine)

"There are some that would call this your grandfather's Connecticut cigar. I personally am not a fan of that flavor profile but I know the majority of the smoking community are. So this would be a winner for the fan of a cigar that is heavy on the cedar, vegetal, and pepper notes. This could make a great everyday cigar for that fan base and should find a home in many humidors." -Estevan Z. (TheRealBanzi)
