Hiram & Solomon Revival Toro - Blind Cigar Review

Hiram & Solomon Revival Toro – Blind Cigar Review

Cigar Info

Earlier this year, Hiram & Solomon Cigars released three new lines for TPE: Châbal, Sublime Prince and Revival. The company originally planned on releasing them more phased out, but because of supply chain issues with box manufacturing, shipping, and other issues, some had to be delayed. The focus of today’s review is the Hiram & Solomon Revival.

This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience.

All three new lines are rolled at the PDR factory, in Dominican Republic, the same factory where all production has recently moved for Hiram & Solomon cigars. Initially, they are all available in the same single size, a 6 x 52 Toro in come in boxes of 20. In keeping with the company’s tradition of giving back, a portion of the proceeds will be donated back to several Charities.

The Revival was created for the Grand Lodge of North Carolina AF & AM and MW Larry B. Thompson Jr. the Grand Master. The inspiration behind the cigar name came from a vision by the Grand Master of a great Masonic revival, enduring many challenges over the past years due to the global pandemic of COVID-19 . “It is now time to reengage the craft and strengthen the bonds that unite us, hence the name (RIVIVAL).” The blend for Revival uses an Ecuadorian Habano Claro wrapper, Ecuadorian binder, and fillers that include PA Broadleaf, Ligero Corojo Dominican FDR2, Seco Corojo Dominican FDR2.

“We have a light to medium brown wrapper, with no flaws to be seen.” –Joseph S. (Bearded Bastard)

Aroma: 90

“Very noticeable aroma of musty earth and leather.” –Randy B. (randobush)

First Third

Flavor: 92
Strength: Mild-Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“Notes of nuts, leather and a touch of peppery spice.” –Joseph S. (Bearded Bastard)

“Sweet citrus and a nice, fresh cedar up top. Almost a coffee cake presence behind that, doughy, brown sugar, cinnamon/baking spices. Soft leather on the finish. The citrus slowly drops to a more moderate level.” –Chris M. (Chris)

Second Third

Second Third

Flavor: 89
Strength: Mild-Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“Going into the second third the draw has improved and is not as airy. A mouthful of smoke is more easily acquired. The cigar has a whimsical flavor profile, as opposed to a heavy or rich flavor profile. The creamy baking spice salty butter paprika goodness is only enhanced by the retrohale. The finish is med-long. Ash is more white than gray, and is solid 2” in.” –Randy B. (randobush)

“Red pepper loomed as earthiness began to replace the lemon.” –Jai P. (Jai)

Final Third

Final Third

Flavor: 89
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“Going into the final third, the flavors have stayed fairly consistent throughout the cigar, with only the strength ramping up in the second and here in the final third. No major flavor transitions however, the cigar remains fairly straightforward with cedar and vanilla and a slight sweetness lasting throughout the cigar. The smoke remained pleasantly creamy and cool in the final third. It also still remains medium in strength and body. All in all, this turned out to be a very good and enjoyable cigar.” –Angel M. (Angel)

“Going into the final third, not much has changed flavor-wise…in the end, they all hung around for what seemed like an encore of a good smoke movie. I will point out that the burn has been flawless and razor-sharp throughout, and ash is at the midway mark as I type, finally falling just near the band.” –Randy B. (randobush)

Overall Impressions – Hiram & Solomon Revival Toro

Draw: 95

“Started out needing three airy puffs to get the desired mouth full of smoke. In the beginning of the second third, the draw was very pleasant with the perfect amount of resistance.” –Randy B. (randobush)

Burn: 93

“There’s a fair amount of wave to the burn, but the only correction needed was after the ash dropped.” –Chris M. (Chris)

Construction: 93

“Excellent construction. Felt great in the hand, the ash held on tightly all the way through the first half and all the way through the second half it’s quite possible the ash would’ve held on throughout the whole cigar but I chose to tap it off about the halfway point.” –Angel M. (Angel)

Overall Strength: Medium
Overall Body/Complexity: Medium
Experience Overall: 93

“My opinion of the cigar overall is that it is a very enjoyable cigar. Although it was lightly flavored and never went past being medium, the consistency was excellent and the flavors I felt balanced well. It was on the lighter side and only gained a small amount of strength in the second and final third. This cigar would go excellent with any Pilsner-type ale or blonde ale all the way up to a hazy IPA. I would definitely recommend this cigar to friends and family as well as put this in my rotation. Although the flavors were very straightforward with no major transitions it was very tasty and enjoyable.” –Angel M. (Angel)

“I was a little turned off by the initial draw, but the flavors pulled me in right off the light up. On the smother side, but the gradual transitions keep it pretty interesting.” –Chris M. (Chris)

“Great flavor profile, loved the mouthfeel, overall a great cigar.” –Joseph S. (Bearded Bastard)

“Perfectly rolled cigar burned flawlessly. At first puff, a citrusy note prepares the palate as oaky notes begin to accompany the citrus. Continuing to puff gives way to bold red pepper and earthy notes. The cigar finishes on a mellow note as the oaky notes round out the smoke.” –Jai P. (Jai)

“During the first half of the first third, I wasn’t sure this was the cigar for me. Into the second third the aforementioned flavors of creamy baking spice, salted butter, and slightly savory paprika, mixed in with black coffee periodically, made for some great flavors. Retrohale was very pleasing throughout. The burn was razor sharp and the entire experience and construction were flawless. Overall a very good experience. PS… And that ash!” –Randy B. (randobush)
