Initial Impressions – Outlier Desire Perfecto
Appearance: 92
“A silky smooth and leather brown wrapper adorns this cigar.” –Doug S. (Unpossible_1)
Aroma: 86
“On the nose, extremely faint scents of brown sugar tantalize the nose while on the cold draw, mild creamy leather displays a soft profile.” –John A. (Bostoneo)
First Third
Flavor: 92
Strength: Mild-Medium
Body/Complexity: Light-Medium
“Immediately I’m greeted with a blast of red pepper that singes my nostrils. As the cigar opens up, a chocolate sweetness along with cherry makes its presence known. At this time I try out the retro to see what I can find, and I am rewarded with some gingerbread!” –Doug S. (Unpossible_1)
“Took a little while for the draw to open up but the after half an inch it was just a little too snug. The profile is dry and slightly sweet with notes of leather, cedar, coffee, and walnuts.” –Alan (Eulogy)
Second Third
Flavor: 90
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium
“Rolling into the second third I meet the cigars widest ring gauge. Here I experience flavors of spicy and grassy leather in a medium-bodied format. As this third quickly comes to a close, the remainder is filled with bouts of extreme black pepper and, suddenly, it can disappear becoming mellow at times.” –John A. (Bostoneo)
“The ash dropped as the middle portion started and the flavor profile completely changed. Now I’m getting a hint of earth with baking spices on the finish. The flavors fade quickly and leave my palate clean and fresh. Through the nose the smoke is much more intense and now is kicking my sinus with black pepper in spades.” –Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)
Final Third
Flavor: 89
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full
“Mushroom on the finish to start this third. The black pepper on the retro is still there, but it fades into white pepper and eventually into sweet tea….nice transitions.” –Mickey T. (irratebass)
“Approaching the final third of this cigar, it begins off with black peppery and slightly sweet notes with a leathery undertone. While this profile remains similar throughout, it increases in flavor and strength as I complete this smoke with a small nub remaining.” –John A. (Bostoneo)
Overall Impressions – Outlier Desire Perfecto
Draw: 91
“If you’ve read my reviews, you know I have a strong opinion of figurados, especially when it comes to draw and burn. This was definitely an outlier and gave me just the right amount of resistance and it never wavered. ” –Doug S. (Unpossible_1)
Burn: 91
“I’m honestly surprised at how well this burned. Even with the odd shape, it burned perfectly from beginning to end. No touch-ups or relights were needed.” –Alan (Eulogy)
Construction: 93
“Rolling a figurado takes some skill that not all have the ability to achieve success and I feel this example is successful. ” –Doug S. (Unpossible_1)
Overall Strength: Medium
Overall Body/Complexity: Medium
Experience Overall: 91
“First off this is not a size that I gravitate towards, but this cigar was great and the size did not affect me. It started out rather odd with very few flavor notes except for cream and butter, but then the cigar woke up and gave me walnuts, mushrooms, black and white pepper, and even some sweet tea. I would definitely smoke this again or just pick up a 10 pack, and if it comes in 10 count boxes then there ya go.” –Mickey T. (irratebass)
“Really loved the shape of the cigar. The first two-thirds had a slightly tight draw but the flavors were still good. If the profile of the final third had been there since the beginning I’d say this would be a box-worthy purchase. Rich notes of bread and walnuts were fantastic at the end.” –Alan (Eulogy)
“It is not easy to make a great figurado, at least one that pleases me. This cigar definitely was a hit for me. The construction and draw were spot on. The profile was complex and a great compilation of notes that I relish. You can’t go wrong with the sweetness of chocolate-covered cherries and the spice of red pepper. Add in root beer and you’ve got a fan in me.” –Doug S. (Unpossible_1)
“The initial portion of this cigar was completely unremarkable for me and had me concerned I was in for a long, uneventful smoke. Fortunately, after the first ash dropped the flavors opened up and the smoke became much more flavorful and enjoyable. Based upon the finish this is something I’d smoke again.” –Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)
“This was a tasty smaller perfecto with an impeccable draw, burn, and construction, albeit the crack that formed lighting the cigar initially. The full myriad of body this cigar provided was impressive in such a short smoke, which gave plenty of pepper and leather flavors aside some woodsy, creamy and earthy notes. If the price is right, i may stock up on some of these when I don’t want a large time commitment.” –John A. (Bostoneo)
