Quick Cigar Review: AJ Fernandez Enclave Broadleaf RobustoThe AJ Fernandez Enclave Broadleaf Robusto is not yet released, but I was lucky enough to be handed one in by the one and only AJ Fernandez himself. The band on the Enclave Broadleaf is similar to the regular Enclave line, with red accents replacing the blue accents on the normal band, and a secondary band that reads “Broadleaf.”

Quick Cigar Review: AJ Fernandez Enclave Broadleaf RobustoIt will be offered in five sizes: Robusto (5 x 52), (6 1/2 x 54), Belicoso (6 x 52), Churchill (7 x 52) and Gordo (5 1/2 x 58). The original Enclave line use an Ecuadorian wrapper and is described as a blend between father and son, Ismael and Abdel Fernández. This one uses a Pennsylvania broadleaf wrapper.

Quick Cigar Review: AJ Fernandez Enclave Broadleaf RobustoPre-light

The wrapper smells of fresh barnyard, pretty mild at the foot. It’s very soft to the touch. There are very few veins in this broadleaf wrapper making is very appealing, especially for a traditionally ugly leaf. It also is sparkly.

First Third

The first few puffs are pretty mild and very broadleaf with notes of coffee and chocolate. There is also still a bit of that curing barn taste. The spice picks up after a quarter inch making this more complex. This is a very good broadleaf cigar, but surprisingly it doesn’t remind me anything of the regular Enclave cigar.

Second Third

The second third continues with traditional briadleaf flavors, but now with the addition of some leather. There’s also a bit if sweetness coming in, honey. This third finishes out must like it started, tasty.

Final Third

The final third still stays strong pepper-wise, but looses some of the chocolate flavor. I am still left with leather and coffee. Towards the end some of the other flavors from the earlier thirds come back and make for a great finale.

Summary
This was an excellent cigar, really a solid broadleaf. I am surprised how much this didn't taste like the regular Enclave, but broadleaf does tend to take over the flavor of a cigar when wrapped. The draw was snug but very good and the burn was average. I would put this as one of the better broadleaf offerings of AJ Fernandez, which is saying a lot because he makes a lot. I'm excited to see how these score in blind review, and I would suggest trying them when it comes out.
