‘Juarez‘ is a followup to the 2014 cigar ‘Jericho Hill’. That cigar was inspired by the Johnny Cash song ‘Cocaine Blues’. This Thompson Cigar exclusive has a Mexican San Andres wrapper like the Jericho hill, but that is where the similarity ends. It uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder and filler from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. It will come in 20 count boxes in three vitolas: 4 3/4 x 52, 6 x 54, and 5 x 56 all parejo shape. The price ranges from $5.95-$7.95.
“The challenge was put forth to us by Thompson Cigar Co., to create a value-conscious alternative to our Jericho Hill brand,” says Crowned Heads co-owner/founder, Jon Huber. “We had been working behind the scenes with Tabacalera Pichardo in Esteli (Nicaragua) on some blends since 2016, mostly just for fun, but as time passed and more and more samples were delivered, we became very impressed with the quality and felt there was certainly potential in working with that house. When we smoked the final blend that would ultimately became ‘Juarez,’ we felt like we had something that was ready to launch.”
Tabacalera Pichardo was founded in 2005 by Don Eradio Pichardo. He was born and raised in Cuba and is a third-generation tobacco agriculturist who worked under renowned Arsenio Ramos of Casa Fernandez. Since 2014 Pirhcardo has been working with sommelier Luciano Meirelles to expand the Tabalacera Pichardo operation. Today, Tabacalera Pichardo makes cigars for over 16 brands to 12 countries.
