Mombacho Cigars S.A. has brought on Indiana Ortez as General Manager to handle the company’s Nicaraguan operations. As the company comes into its 15th year, Indiana brings years of tobacco knowledge and a fresh energy to Mombacho‘s production team. Indiana is of course the daughter of Omar Ortez, patriarch of one of Nicaragua‘s oldest tobacco families.
It is both an honor and a pleasure to have Indiana joining the Senior Management team at Mombacho. While Indiana’s impressive and broad expertise is a welcome asset, her passion, spirit, and management style will also be an important part of the company’s cultural vision.
Cam Heaps, President of Mombacho Cigars S.A.
Being the first Nicaraguan female General Manager of a cigar company like Mombacho challenges me twice as much because I feel the responsibility to carry the high legacy of women in our industry. This position allows me to keep my personal promise of working with well fermented tobaccos and continuing to push quality and consistency to an uncompromising place. Moving to the exciting colonial town of Granada, Nicaragua is also an exciting part of the role. Mombacho feels like a spaceship that is ready for take-off.
Indiana Ortez
The hiring of Indiana comes in the wake of many shakeups at the company as of late, including the departure of Claudio Sgroi, it’s longtime president and master blender, the return of Cam Heaps, one of its original founders in the president role, and the hiring of Jared Ingrisano as Global Director of Sales.
