Initial Impressions

Famous | Nicaraguan Selection 1000 Robusto

Appearance: 92

“Nice maduro robusto. Wrapper leaf is just mottled enough to give me confidence it’s natural and not dyed. Looks to be a double cap that’s pretty well placed. I can’t hardly find the seams in it, they’re so tight. A few small to medium veins. Overall, a very nice looking cigar.” –Brian (B-daddy)

Aroma: 89

“Almost immediately when it comes close to the nose, there are definitely barnyard-type scents like fresh hay, grass, leather and a certain sweetness that reminds me of a mocha latte (hey, don’t judge me…).” –Milton (mjohnsoniii)

Construction: 92

“A very well rolled cigar, very firm with no soft spots.” –Ron (shuckins)

First Third

Famous | Nicaraguan Selection 1000 Robusto

Flavor: 90
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“Wood with a blast of pepper on light up, but it only lasted a couple of puffs before letting a dark roast coffee flavor through along with a taste of dry leather” —Ron (shuckins)

“Lots of cocoa and café au lait flavors, with a nice splash of sweetness. Some troubles with tunneling.” –Myles (MylesT)

“This is a pretty inviting third. Although its a bit odd. It starts off with a nice coffee flavor almost French roast-equse with some blast of hazelnut. Somewhere along the third, I get this blast of peanuts then chocolate. Like I said very odd.” –Jason (bigslowrock)

Second Third

Flavor: 90
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“Still woodsy tasting with what I like to call campfire wood, which has a bit of a charcoal aftertaste along with the dark roast coffee flavor, and light leather, which is still smoking dry.” –Ron (shuckins)

“Flavors in the second third get a little more rich and dark. Some earthiness to the leather and coffee flavors. Introduces a touch of harshness to the flavor profile. Still getting good smoke volume. The strength has kicked-up a touch in this third too.” –Brian (B-daddy)

“The retrohale leaves bits of leather, chocolate, roasted almonds and freshly ground coffee beans lingering on the palate making this a very good cigar about halfway in. The ash fell at the beginning of the second third which I thought would hold at least until it reached the middle of the cigar.”  –Milton (mjohnsoniii)

Final Third

Famous | Nicaraguan Selection 1000 Robusto

Flavor: 89
Strength: Medium-Strong
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“This cigar is showing it’s strength with a borderline bitterness that never makes it to the front. A white pepper taste makes a brief appearance, turning to black pepper corn along with the light leather, dark roast coffee, and campfire wood taste, which actually blended pretty well together to provide a nice kick at the end.” –Ron (shuckins)

“Still lots of coffee and spices, but it’s getting pretty harsh and bitter now, almost sour tasting, and I have to fix the wrapper burn every few minutes from the tunneling. If not for the review, I’d have tossed this by now.” —Myles (MylesT)

“The final third didn’t prove to be much different than the second. The flavors stayed consistent with the chocolate and roasted almonds being a bit bolder and coffee beans slightly less pronounced. There was also the addition of rosemary that was well-defined and black pepper which added a late “kick”.” –Milton (mjohnsoniii)

Overall Impressions

Draw: 93

“I guess I’m a little reluctant to call it “perfect” but it was close. I wouldn’t be upset if every cigar I smoke has a draw just like this one. Effortless.” –Brian (B-daddy)

Burn: 90

“Slow, but effective, with no touch ups needed.” –Ron (shuckins)

Overall Experience: 90

“This was an odd one for me, especially with that turn at the end. I think I would like to smoke another one before deciding on a buy. I definitely recommend picking one up to try, but I don’t know it I would go for a 5er.” —Jason (bigslowrock)

“Would smoke another one, especially if i were grilling because it would pair well with a nice steak.” –Ron (shuckins)

“I’m really hoping this was just a dud, because the base flavors were nice, but it was just plagued with problems for me. Now, I keep my sticks at about 65% RH, so I don’t think it was an issue of being over-humidified, but it could have been buried under some other sticks and not breathing well. I’d really like to give this another shot at some point.” –Myles (MylesT)

“I enjoyed this cigar. Some unique flavors to it. Some old favorites in there too. I’d definitely smoke it again and would recommend it to others. If for no other reason than to try and reproduce/experience those soapy cedar flavors it had at the start. I’m intrigued to find out what it was.” –Brian (B-daddy)

“In my opinion, this cigar was one that would be suitable to enjoy during a lunch break or even an after dinner stogie to enjoy with a glass of your favorite beverage. I would definitely do a box purchase as I could see these getting a lot better over time.” –Milton (mjohnsoniii)
