Cigar Info
Montecristo is one of the best known brands in the cigar world. Originally coming from Cuba, the brand is also made today in the Dominican Republic. The Montecristo White Series is one Montecristo’s flagship cigars, and a staple in many humidors forever. The blend uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut Wrapper around Nicaraguan and Dominican. They are meant to be a medium-bodied cigar. This cigar was a follow up to Altadis’ original Montecristo Yellow Label release and meant to be a little stronger.

Initial Impressions – Montecristo White Series Rothchilde
Appearance: 94
“Robusto in size with a golden brown wrapper. The wrapper is quite flawless, there are some seams, but nothing crazy. This cigar is well packed.” –Mickey T. (irratebass)
Aroma: 94
“Aroma is very soft floral, tobacco and earth.” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)
First Third
Flavor: 91
Strength: Mild-Medium
Body/Complexity: Light-Medium
“The cigar lit up quickly and first few puffs were very mild but quickly grew in strength a bit. Absolutely no coco flavor that I was smelling before lighting. This is a very “dry” cigar. Would pair nicely with a morning coffee. Leather, cashew / peanut dominate the profile with very little sweetness so far. I was expecting this cigar to have a lot more spice in the retro-hale, and while it is present, it is still a very mild cigar.” –David F. (dfafjf)
“Deep rich leather, cream, black pepper, vanilla ice cream cone, start off and end a delicious mild-medium third that is effortless to retrohale.” –John A. (Bostoneo)
Second Third
Flavor: 95
Strength: Mild-Medium
Body/Complexity: Light-Medium
“Fair amount of cream I am not sure if its part of the milk chocolate or not. Draw is tighter than I would like. I am more interested in this floral note. The cigar leaves a clean palate after every draw which is also nice.” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)
“A delicious rich and buttery profile starts things out well. While maintaining this buttery profile nuances of sweet peppers, malt, and vanilla fade in and out. Vanilla butter cream ramps up on the back end of this luxurious smoke.” –John A. (Bostoneo)
Final Third
Flavor: 95
Strength: Mild-Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium
“The sweet honey flavored stayed with me until the final puff. It stayed mild medium.” –Mickey T. (irratebass)
“Rich bold vanilla and oak, bourbon like, begin the last third. Towards the end while burning my fingers to keep smoking this wonderful stick, a medium spicy pepper profile joins the fray.” –John A. (Bostoneo)
Overall Impressions – Montecristo White Series Rothchilde
Draw: 98
“Nice open draw. No issues at all. Easy to smoke.” –David F. (dfafjf)
Burn: 94
“Really good burn through the cigar. A bit wonky at points but no touch ups needed. While not a perfectly even burn, I had no issues at all.” –David F. (dfafjf)
Construction: 92
“Really nice construction on this cigar. It smoked very slow in my opinion. It stayed cool and the ash fell off in big 1 inch chunks.” –Mickey T. (irratebass)
Overall Strength: Mild-Medium
Overall Body/Complexity: Medium
Experience Overall: 93
“I was expecting a lot more from this cigar before lighting it up. Sadly the flavor was just nothing exceptional. A little spice throughout the cigar with peanut, leather, but not much else.” –David F. (dfafjf)
“Excellent smoke! One of the best mild-medium smoked I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. The rich buttery and vanilla notes that were the backbone of this cigar were thoroughly enjoyable. Only smoke this cigar when you have the time to sit back, relax, and savor a truly high quality cigar.” –John A. (Bostoneo)
“The only negative I can pass is the draw. From the time you light this cigar it just gets better and better. The burn didn’t take anything away from the experience. Very good cigar can’t wait to smoke more.” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)
“This cigar surprised me. It looked like it was going to be a real mild smoke, but it started out as a full medium with plenty of pepper and spice with just a hint of sweetness to balance it out, but then in the second and third it did a complete 180 and was just barely a medium in strength, the pepper and spice was almost gone and just oozed with honey sweetness and hay for the duration.” –Mickey T. (irratebass)
