Crowned Heads has announced its tenth iteration of their Las Calaveras line, Las Calaveras EL 2023. For the first time since 2016, and only the second time in its history, the 2023 Las Calaveras will use a Grade A Dark Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper.
We’re bringing the Broadleaf back for ’23. I’ve held My Father Cigars and the Garcia family in such high regard, especially when it came to their use of Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper and the resultant blend expressions. The 2023 Las Calaveras blend has so much going on in terms of what you’d expect from a My Father Broadleaf blend, everything from pepper to chocolate to earth, all impeccably and consistently balanced. We’re also featuring a first in the 2023 Las Calaveras Sampler, as this will be the first time we’ve featured a Belcoso Fino as the Sampler-exclusive vitola, and the first time we’ve produced that vitola with My Father Cigars.

Crowned Heads Las Calaveras was first released in 2014 as a tribute to those who have passed on in the previous year. It is intended to be a celebration of life and remembrance, as opposed to a
mournful symbol of death or loss. Each year, the Las Calaveras band is adorned with the
initials of four individuals who’ve passed the prior year, one set of initials embossed upon each
of the four coins on the sides of each band. Cigars are presented in 24-count boxes, three
rows of eight cigars each, as the number ‘8’ is a symbol of infinity as in everlasting life, while
the three rows represent the beginning, middle, and end of the cycle of life.
A total of 1,500 boxes of each of the three vitolas will be released for a total of 108,000 cigars, with an additional 3,000 four-cigar samplers featuring one of each vitola along with a sampler exclusive
Belicoso Fino {5 1/2″ x 52). Las Calaveras EL 2023 will have a suggested retail price range of
$12.95 to $14.95 per cigar, including LC50 (5″ x 50), LC52 (6″ x 52), and LC54 (5 5/8″ x 54).
The Las Calaveras EL 2023 Sampler will have a suggested retail price of $54.95. Las
Calaveras EL 2023 is rolled at My Father Cigars in Esteli, Nicaragua, and will begin
shipping in June.
