Cigar Info
Up until last year, the The El Rey del Mundo brand was only sold through JR Cigar. Then, in February 2021 it was opened up to The Forged Cigar Company accounts nationwide. When the refreshed line launched, it came in two blends, a Sumatra and a Connecticut broadleaf. We reviewed the Connecticut Broadleaf version back in August of that year. Earlier this year, the brand added another new blend known as Naturals. The El Rey Del Mundo Naturals are a regular production cigar and a completely different blend from the Sumatra version of El Rey del Mundo that launched last year.
This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience.
El Rey Del Mundo Naturals is rolled at the HATSA factory in Danli, Honduras. It is described as a mellow-to-medium-bodied smoke. The blend uses an Ecuadoran Sumatra wrapper, a Honduran binder and Honduran and Nicaraguan fillers. El Rey Del Mundo Naturals comes in four vitolas: Rectangulars (5.625” x 46) $5.19 (box pressed), Robusto en Vidrio (5.5” x 50) $6.49 (crystal tube), Flor de Llaneza (6.125” x 54) $6.79 (pyramid), and Reserva Salado (6” x 54) $6.79 (toro). Initial Impressions – El Rey Del Mundo Naturals Robusto en Vidrio
Appearance: 90
“A slight misshape at the head, otherwise a beautiful cigar.” –Jai P. (Jai)
Aroma: 90
“The initial aroma that I picked up on was an earthiness followed by a small amount of sweet hay.” –Quinn (quinnpins269)
First Third
Flavor: 89
Strength: Mild-Medium
Body/Complexity: Light-Medium
“As the first third starts I am getting roasted nuts with a slight sweetness.” –Jai P. (Jai)
“The cigar starts out with nutty and woody flavors and a slight underlying sweetness with dry mouth feel.” –Joseph S. (Bearded Bastard)
Second Third
Flavor: 90
Strength: Mild-Medium
Body/Complexity: Light-Medium
“The second third was a pleasant treat. The white pepper and mineral notes had faded and gave way to a creamy smoke with hints of gram cracker and baking spices. The draw has been on point giving just the right amount of resistance to keep from overheating the cigar.” –Quinn
(quinnpins269)
“The ash is very weak and flakey. pepper does dial back. A smokey wood note joins. The profile is still very smooth and the draw is very open and effortless. The pepper is now through the nose .” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)
Final Third
Flavor: 90
Strength: Mild-Medium
Body/Complexity: Light-Medium
“Sweet creamy goodness and a wonderful aroma of fresh roasted coffee is was the final third had in store for me. It was a very nice transition from the second third with the gram cracker and backing spices.” –Quinn (quinnpins269)
“Macadamia nut, meaty mouth feel.” –Joseph S. (Bearded Bastard)
Overall Impressions – El Rey Del Mundo Naturals Robusto en Vidrio
Draw: 94
“I opted for a straight cut for this cigar. The draw was great and never had any restrictions.” –Quinn (quinnpins269)
Burn: 88
“The burn through the first and second third was very good, but through the last third was pretty challenging and not performing as well as it should have.” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)
Construction: 90
“The cigar held the ash really well and my only complaint was the misshapen head.” –Jai P. (Jai)
Overall Strength: Mild-Medium
Overall Body/Complexity: Light-Medium
Experience Overall: 89
“I would put this cigar in the milder end of the range. It offered some great profiles in the second and final thirds. But I could see it becoming very muted with coffee, soda, or bourbon. I choose to stick with water for this review. I enjoyed the cigar but would not consider adding it to the regular rotation. I would smoke it from time to time though.” –Quinn (quinnpins269)
“I really enjoyed the flavor combos, the meaty mouthfeel, I think it makes a great after-dinner cigar.” –Joseph S. (Bearded Bastard)
“As soon as I lit this cigar, I could taste sweetness and roasted nuts, almost like honey-roasted peanuts. As I continued to indulge, a little white pepper was introduced, adding a little complexity to the cigar. The sweetness eventually gave way to the pepper notes, only to return as the cigar began to wind down. Would I smoke this cigar again? Absolutely! I enjoyed the experience so much I would have immediately smoked another one upon setting this one down.” –Jai P. (Jai)
“Although I may have been hoping for more than the cigar could provide, I did enjoy the cigar. Some bitter after notes in the first third were coupled with a very singular character profile. The profile was smooth and enjoyable. It was if not a touch mundane and unexciting. I would smoke the cigar again but would not seek them out.” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)
