Initial Impressions – United Cigars Abuelo Padre

Appearance: 90

“This ever so slightly veiny standard comes wrapped in a smooth medium brown, with a copper hue, wrapper, and measured in at 6”x52rg. Its triple cap has a slight crack in it but is cut clean with no negative residual effect. Its open foot reveals just good looking brown tobacco, nothing real dark or rich.” – (randobush)”

Aroma: 89

“Light cereal grain, manure, and slightly sweet natural tobacco from the wrapper. Floral and natural tobacco off the foot.” – (Chris)

First Third
Padre – Blind Cigar Review

First Third

Flavor: 93
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“Soft leather, cedar, and citrus combine up top. Some honey-roasted nuts layered beneath that. There is a minimal amount of spice on the finish and a retrohale that resembles ginger. A bit of cocoa joins around an inch in.” – (Chris)

“The sweetness didn’t go away. Notes of sweet maple are coming through.” – (fullermaine)

Second Third
Padre – Blind Cigar Review

Second Third

Flavor: 91
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“2.5 inches in, the ash has not fallen and the cigar continues to demonstrate solid construction. The flavors have gotten pasty and flat, not horrible, not even bad, but nevertheless. Lots of baking spice, citrus zing, paprika, and a hint of brief toffee on the retrohale. Sweet cayenne rest on the tongue, providing a long finish.” – (randobush)”

“In the second third, the cigar is still dominated by vanilla and cashew however a white pepper has joined the crowd and lingers a little while on the tongue. The smoke continues to be fairly creamy and cool in temperature. The strength has picked up slightly as well going from straight mild to mild-medium.” – (Angel)

Final Third
Padre – Blind Cigar Review

Final Third

Flavor: 93
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“Upon entering the final third all flavors came full circle, although much smoother and more homogenized than the beginning. Earthy flavors were mineral latent but not metallic like the initial puffs on this stick. Underlying cedar notes further accentuated the spiciness that continued to linger on the palate while the retro remained dominant with crushed red pepper. Overall, the final act of this cigar was less complex but the flavors were smooth which led to a pleasant finish.” – (Noah)

“Going into the final third, the sweet cayenne now picked up a bit of white pepper that just made me sneeze. The flavors get pretty nice in the final third, expresso beans, toffee, baking spice, citrus zest, and cayenne. That’s it!” – (randobush)”

Overall Impressions – United Cigars Abuelo Padre

Draw: 99

“The draw feels perfectly balanced to me, not too open and not too snug. Definitely makes for an enjoyable experience.” – (Angel)

Burn: 93

“Even to uneven burn depending on which portion I was smoking. The unevenness corrected itself.” – (fullermaine)

Construction: 92

“Almost no attention was needed aside from the one smaller correction. No cracks or issues with the wrapper on a fairly chilly day despite it feeling a little thin. Smoke production was great.” – (Chris)

Overall Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“Aside from the harshness of the initial puffs, I can’t say a negative thing about this stick. Bitter flavors typically aren’t my go-to when it comes to cigars but oddly they worked in this blend. The transitions were smooth, gradual, and plentiful which certainly made for an interesting smoke. As did the gambit of flavor profiles that encompassed everything from spicy, sweet, salty, tangy, and bitter. I also enjoyed that the flavors came full circle and ended where they began, intriguing me with every puff along the way. I can’t help but wonder if some additional aging or time in the humidor would help smooth out some of the harshnesses at the very beginning. Overall, this cigar was immensely enjoyable and one that I will certainly seek out again.” – (Noah)

“Nice mix of notes in this cigar. Notes of sugar, oak, maple, licorice, black pepper, and wood. Nice strong dark ash with an even to uneven burn. A minor touch-up was needed. I’d smoke this cigar again.” – (fullermaine)

“This cigar definitely grabbed and held my interest. The flavors are big enough to cut through after a hearty meal, or probably paired with a strong drink. Though the second third dipped for me slightly, it definitely came back and finished strong. I’d be interested in smoking these again.” – (Chris)

“I’d say for a mild to medium cigar with light flavors this cigar was very enjoyable. I very much enjoyed the vanilla and cashew flavors that carried through the whole cigar the added white pepper towards the end was an interesting transition. The smooth creamy smoke was the icing on the cake. I would definitely consider putting this in my arsenal of regulars as well as recommending to others.” – (Angel)

“I’d give this cigar a C+/B- overall. It’s probably somebody’s gem, and I would smoke it again, but just not realllllly in my wheelhouse. Lots of outstanding qualities though, with the draw, burn, construction, and flavors. Worth a try, it might be your gem!” – (randobush)”
