Cigar Info
The Davidoff | Winston Churchill Late Hour was released at the 2017 IPCPR. The cigar was a follow-up to the success of the relaunch of the Winston Churchill line. The name “Late Hour” comes from Winston Churchill himself who was said to always be the most productive during the “Late hour“. This time the cigar comes with barrel aging which seems to be a popular trend with the recent launch of the Camacho barrel aged lines. This particular cigar has filler that has been aged in scotch barrels.
As a side note we recently took a trip to the Davidoff factory in the Dominican Republic. While on the tour they cracked open a barrel of the aging filler much to my delight. The smell from the barrel will be something I personally will never forget.

Pre-light
Beautiful looking Churchill with a very dark and oily wrapper with tight seams and fair amount of veins running throughout.
Getting some sweetness, cedar, and earth on the wrapper Not getting a ton the foot other than some mustiness and a bit of earth.
First Third
First third getting a nice blast of cedar and hay with a bit of spice that lingers on the tongue. Getting a nice smooth retro filled with earth and a floral note. So far just a gentle smoke with some great flavors.
Second Third
It could be the name leading me down this path but the second third I really start picking up the notes from the barrel aging. Getting lots of soft vanilla, toffee, and a bit of something I can’t quite put my finger on.
Final Third
Throughout the final third the maltiness and softer flavors I was getting in the 2nd third fade away and I get a nice charred oak. Reminds me of a bit of bbq along with some spice/floral notes on the retro.
Overall Impressions
This cigar performed like a champ. No touch ups required during the entire experience and I got tons of flavor. I have smoked this cigar in other sizes and hands down the Churchill is my favorite. I do find the Toro to have a bit more pepper but overall I can smoke these over and over. Recommend this cigar to anyone.
