Initial Impressions

Appearance: 89

“This robusto sized cigar had a nice oily, dark maduro colored wrapper with some small to medium sized veins running through it. It also had a very nice triple cap.” –Craig (WyldKnyght)

Aroma: 89

“The cigar smells of a pleasant sweet cedar. I get cedar and raisin on the pre-light draw.” –Dave (mdwest)

First Third

Flavor: 85
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“Quite a few flavors are bouncing back and forth. Coffee, cedar, allspice and brief hints of chocolate with a mild pepper present on the retrohale. None of them are settling in as a main player yet it seems to work.” –Gregg (McGreggor57)

“On the first couple of draws I got a mild pepper which gave way to a taste of nuts. This third was very enjoyable.” –Craig (WyldKnyght)

Second Third

Flavor: 89
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“Cedar and allspice are becoming a little more intense. There is a graham cracker taste settling on my palate with a little coffee on the finish. Further in, the allspice is transitioning to more of a clove. Some leather is also developing in the background.” –Gregg (McGreggor57)

“Flavors remain the same in the second third, but aren’t quite as bold now. The smoke is extremely smooth and silky. So far so good. This is really enjoyable.” –Dave (mdwest)

Final Third

Blind Cigar Review: Cubanacan | Maduro Rothschild

Flavor: 88
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“Last third gives the exact same experience as the first and second thirds. The binder and filler continues to give flavors of gritty dirt, semi-sweet cream and dry wood. Strength and body at a medium.” –Jiunn (jliu)

“The final third finished much like the first, with the same basic flavor profile, but continues to mellow the further I get into the stick. The cigar isnt flat or bland at all. The flavors just become more delicate and less pronounced as the smoke progresses.” –Dave (mdwest)

Overall Impressions

Draw: 88

“Draw was on the tighter side. Tighter in the sense that it constantly reminded me the draw is a bit tight.” –Jiunn (jliu)

Burn: 89

“Overall, a good burn with consistent combustion and a reasonably straight burn line, requiring no touch ups.” –Dave (mdwest)

Construction: 83

“The seams began to lift and buckle near the ash. I also noticed the tobacco had a small void at the foot.” –Gregg (McGreggor57)

Blind Cigar Review: Cubanacan | Maduro Rothschild

“I’m unsure how I should rate this cigar. If purely reviewing on the taste of the binder and filler, this was a “fair” cigar. Some nice notes of gritty dirt, semi sweet cream and dry wood. My overall assessment is, “no review” as I need to smoke the entire cigar for what it is.” –Jiunn (jliu)

“Allspice, cedar and clove flavors are all susceptible to becoming overpowering, but in this case, they remained well balanced. The first third was my favorite with the different notes that came out. While the last two thirds were solid, they were a little lacking. This cigar might not make the rotation, but I wouldn’t shy away from smoking another one.” –Gregg (McGreggor57)

“Truly awful experience. I think it would have made me sick had I tried to finish the entire thing. I’d smoke a gas station flavored special before I’d smoke this cigar again.” –Dan (Danfish)

“I do have to say this was one of the best blind cigars I’ve had and can’t wait to find out what it was. This cigar was right in my wheelhouse from the get go. The nice dark oily wrapper, the aromas of leather and firewood smoke, the near perfect draw, the flavors of mild pepper, nuttiness, the stronger pepper near the end and finally the cinnamon flavor to finish it off. I’m definitely going to smoke this cigar again.” –Craig (WyldKnyght)

“Overall, a nice cigar. Not very complex, but with a solid profile and enjoyable flavors. This would be a good daily smoke if the price is right.” –Dave (mdwest)
