Blind Cigar Review: JRE | Aladino Connecticut Robusto Initial Impressions

Appearance: 93

“The wrapper has a coffee with a lot of cream look to it. It’s very smooth to the touch with no tooth or oily feel. The seams are slightly bunched in a few areas but it is well constructed for the most part. ” –Alan (Eulogy)

Aroma: 92

“Very pleasant aromas coming from the foot of the cigar. Cedar, baked bread, and cabinet spices. The aroma from the wrapper has the cedar and a little bit of peanut shell. The prelight draw, which is just about perfect, has notes of sweet cream and peanut brittle/toffee. ” –Kevin A. (Kevin A.)

First Third

Blind Cigar Review: JRE | Aladino Connecticut Robusto

Flavor: 94
Strength: Mild-Medium
Body/Complexity: Light-Medium

“Ok the flavors in the first few puffs of this cigar are outstanding. There is toasted marshmallow, burnt sugar, cinnamon and peanut shells, all with a citrus and floral note on the finish. There is so much going in the flavor department at the start it takes a few puffs to pick it all apart to actually tell what all was there. It all blends together exceptionally well. The retrohale has the slightest amount of white pepper to it, and a nice lemon zest zing. Draw and burn are both great!” –Kevin A. (Kevin A.)

“Toasted the foot carefully so as to not scorch the tobacco. First puffs were a lot of that dry tobacco and grass. As it went along, the lemon zest and other citrus notes came along. I know this might sound kind of odd, but it comes across as a refreshing cigar. I also got some hints of white pepper on the retro. Strength was definitely on the mild side. Glad I decided to pair it with water because anything stronger would have definitely influenced the flavors. Let’s move onto the 2nd third and see what awaits us. ” –Kevin J. (maninblack77)

Flavor: 92
Strength: Mild-Medium
Body/Complexity: Light-Medium

“Slightly more tobacco forward in profile than the previous third. I’m getting a hint of anise, bread, baking spice, and just a tingle of pepper. ” –Alan (Eulogy)

“Construction continues to be the star of the show with a super smooth draw, long solid ash, and plentiful smoke production. Flavors remain the same in the second third, light coffee via the retrohale and faint earth on the draw.” –Matt C. (CadeTNCC)

Final Third

Flavor: 92

“Interesting notes to end this stick. Spicy notes of licorice to burnt toast to cinnamon. ” –Sean F.

(fullermaine)

“As we get into the final third, burn continues to impress me. I haven’t had to touch this up a single time. And I’m very particular about my burn lines. As far as flavors go, I am getting some vanilla like sweetness added to the citrus notes. Adds a new level of enjoyment to it. I definitely nubbed this smoke.” –Kevin J. (maninblack77)

Overall Impressions

Draw: 97

“Draw was as it should be start to finish” –Kevin A. (Kevin A.)

Burn: 94

“The straight burn line never gave me a single issue or worry throughout the smoking experience.” –Matt C. (CadeTNCC)

Construction: 95

“It’s been a while since a cigar’s construction impressed me to this degree. A perfectly smooth draw after barely clipping the cap, razor sharp burn line with a strong solid ash, plentiful smoke production throughout the entire smoking experience… Whoever rolled this cigar deserves a pat on the back and maybe a raise.” –Matt C. (CadeTNCC)

Overall Strength: Mild-Medium
Overall Body/Complexity: Medium
Experience Overall: 93

“A “breakfast” cigar. Notes of bitter coffee and tea with a side order of toast. A hint of spice at the end makes this an interesting stick. A nice good morning cigar.” –Sean F. (fullermaine)

“There’s some construction issues that hold back the score for me. I found the profile to be nice but pretty mild and I think it would make a great morning cigar or something for people that dislike a heavy pepper note on the tongue. Overall, a nice light cigar that I would smoke again if the construction issues are not prevalent.” –Alan (Eulogy)

“Nubworthy, buy a box, smoke one every day, what else can I say? This cigar was extremely enjoyable from pre light to nub. The flavor transitions were amazing and the complexity, which is sometimes not a good thing, was 100% on point here. It starts of medium and sweet and finished bold and zesty. Not so sweet that it is hard to pair with a beverage and not so spicy that it wrecks your palate. Well balanced, well blended. These will be a permanent resident in the humidor!” –Kevin A. (Kevin A.)

“While far from complex, this cigar was not far from enjoyable. If you’re thing is overly mild cigars then I could see you enjoying this light hearted short smoke as long as you go in to it not expecting much in the way of transitions or a plethora of flavors. It’s just a simple, extremely well constructed mild cigar. ” –Matt C. (CadeTNCC)

“As far as mild cigars go, this is one of the best I’ve had. Construction was perfect, flavors were fresh and vibrant, and it turned out to be a very enjoyable experience. I’d give this a “Great”. Would definitely try this again. Worth a fiver for sure. Would pair well with a lighter coffee so as to not overpower it.” –Kevin J. (maninblack77)
