Blind Cigar Review: JRE | Aladino Maduro Corona Cigar Info

The JRE Aladino Maduro is the followup to the original Aladino that made its debut back in 2015. The cigar was teased back in 2017 but didn’t fully make its way to shelves until 2018. It did have a soft launch at the end of 2018. The corona size was not one of the original sizes, this one in fact was released this year at IPCPR.

This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience.

Initially, only four sizes were launched: Elegante (7 x 38) — $7.75, Cazador (6 x 46) — $9, Robusto (5 x 50) — $10.50, and Toro (6 x 50) — $11.50. A gordo was talked about but has never come to market, and a Rothschild was sold at soft launch, but hasn’t been seen since. The blend uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper,Honduran corojo binder, and Honduran fillers.

Blind Cigar Review: JRE | Aladino Maduro Corona Initial Impressions

Appearance: 93

“Little rustic in appearance with some prominent veins and slightly uneven color. It’s almost a dark chocolate brown wrapper that’s toothy to the touch with a soft box pressed shape. There’s a small triple cap at the head and a few wrinkles on the wrapper throughout but it’s still very attractive. ” –Alan (Eulogy)

Aroma: 93

“Heavy bakers chocolate and earth from the wrapper, only earth from the foot some minute amounts of molasses and bread also.” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)

Flavor: 90
Strength: Medium-Strong
Body/Complexity: Medium

“Cold draw gives me salt with some coffee elements. Right away there is a sweet tobacco or molasses element right out the gate. There is a chocolate flavor on the finish that lingers on my palate…..very nice. ” –Mickey T. (irratebass)

“Where to start on the first third? The cigar started off with a strong umami, savory, flavor akin to a nice grilled meat. There was an amalgamation of coffee, chocolate, and several other flavors I could not distinguish. Citrus peel flavors seemed strong, but not always present. ” –Isaac M. (The Nothing)

Second Third

Flavor: 90
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“Profile is now more balanced. The different notes seem to arrive and depart the palate perfectly. Cigar does leave the palate feeling a little dirty, But I am enjoying it thoroughly. ” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)

“Picking up raisins along with some cream in the beginning of the 2nd. There is a black tea with white pepper that lingers on my palate, and my lips are tingling a bit. Really enjoying this. ” –Mickey T. (irratebass)

Final Third

Flavor: 88
Strength: Strong
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“Rich notes of tobacco are drowning out many of the other flavors. There’s a distinct lack of sweetness that was present in the first two thirds and I’m picking up a lot more heat from the red pepper. I’m still getting black coffee and leather occasionally but it’s much more of a background note. ” –Alan (Eulogy)

“Finally, the last third keeps trending the same for me, dark molasses sweetness, spice, and the charred wood hold true. Even down to the last inch, same profile here. ” –John A. (Bostoneo)

Overall Impressions

Draw: 92

“Great open draw with no issues whatsoever, I had plenty of smoke output. ” –Mickey T. (irratebass)

Burn: 94

“Burn needed no corrections and was straight as an arrow the whole experience ” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)

Construction: 93

“Excellent construction on this cigar, I was afraid that it may have been under filled, but nope. It burned cool and gave me about a quarter of an inch of ash with each tap. ” –Mickey T. (irratebass)

“Definitely worth a 10 pack” –Ryan H. (Ryan H.)

“It’s a great cigar right now but I can’t help but think this thing will be so much better in a year or two. The smoke output was great, thick chewy clouds of smoke. The flavors were varied and almost had a roller coaster feel of high bold notes at the beginning, more subdued in the middle, and ramped back up at the end. I’m going to pick some up and see if I’m right about how well these will age. ” –Alan (Eulogy)

“This was a great cigar! Lots of flavors…..let me count the ways – Chocolate, cream, molasses, syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, wood and some nuts. This cigar was right at a medium, so one could enjoy this as your 1st cigar of the day pairs with a nice cup of Joe. Highly recommended. ” –Mickey T. (irratebass)

“This was a great looking and full bodied decent tasting cigar, however it fell flat on producing a complex experience. I enjoyed the charred wood, molasses sweetness and spice, but that all you will get here. Not worth keeping in my humidor, many more sticks that would provide a better session. ” –John A. (Bostoneo)

“What made the cigar unique is that while the primary flavors of citrus, meats, and chocolates were always there, the aspect of those flavors changed. You start off with a nice grilled steak and then you moved to a barbecue, and then you finished with something that was overly prepared. Or you had a nice citrus peel, that went dry. And then you finished with an unripened fruit. Very unique.I I found that rather interesting and I would definitely give this a try again.” –Isaac M. (The Nothing)
