Blind Cigar Review: Southern Draw | Jacobs Ladder Brimstone Initial Impressions

Appearance: 93

“Pretty well constructed, veins inline throughout. Very good tapering with the exception of a small lump on the foot. Head is very well done, coming to a firm point.” – (Jeb somedumbjerk)

Aroma: 88

“Aroma is quite nice with notes of tobacco, earth, and cocoa.  Also getting a mineral like sweetness.” – ()

First Third

Flavor: 89
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“Room note is a dirty leather which is very nice. Draw is way tighter than I would like. Smoke production is very low due to the draw problem I am assuming, however the profile is good though. At the front you have a molasses sweetness, followed mid palate by black pepper spice finishing with leather and earth. A very nice combination and very smooth.” – ()

“Upon lighting up i am greeted with a medium bodied Bouquet of cedar and leather. Moving past the initial nipple the cigar starts to open up. Dark cocoa, black pepper and roasted poblano peppers continue on a bolder medium bodied experience to end this third. ” – (Bostoneo)

Second Third

Flavor: 89
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“Much the same. Leather and oak in the front with a little mineral in the back. A little creamy for a moment but dropped off. Ash is still flaky but holds for an inch at a time. No noticeable build in spice or body.” – (Jeb somedumbjerk)

“A slight sweetened peanut butter is clearly present coming into the second third. It is followed by rich oak and leather flavors with an earthy peppery retrohale. Further down, black coffee joins the aforementioned flavors while the peanut butter fades in and out.” – (Bostoneo)

Final Third

Flavor: 83
Strength: Medium-Strong
Body/Complexity: Medium

“Tar begins spouting from the head of the cigar so I have to end the review” – ()

“Too much tar, I couldn’t finish it. ” – (irratebass)

Draw: 91

“Open draw only required a small angled cut. Stayed open the whole time, only had to re-cut once at the end to get rid of some oil/moisture build up.” – (Jeb somedumbjerk)

Burn: 94

“Burn, surprisingly was very nice.” – ()

Construction: 93

“Great construction excluding the flaky ash. Impressive for the shape.” – (Jeb somedumbjerk)

Overall Strength: Medium-Strong
Overall Body/Complexity: Medium
Experience Overall: 89

“I would reserve this stick for the buddy box.” – ()

“Sadly this cigar was filled with tar, and just had to get out and ruin my smoking experience. ” – (irratebass)

“The cigar is very well made and enjoyable enough, but lacks depth and complexity. Left a taste in my mouth between all purpose flour and mineral water. The smoke output was very high, and the burn was very straight requiring no touch-ups.” – (Jeb somedumbjerk)

“Upon first sight of this super dark wrapped cigar I thought it may be a full-bodied mute flavored sample, however i was wrong. It contained a myriad of delicious notes that even kept a seasoned cigar smoker like me interested and entertained. Paired with an excellent draw, burn, and especially construction for this shape, it is an easy recommendation for anyone to try. In fact, i demand you to, it is simply a divine smoking experience. ” – (Bostoneo)

“I was really in the mood for a demanding cigar and this was just that… flavorful and powerful… perfect for me. I look forward to the next one. ” – (Jokey Smurf)
