Cigar News: Herrera Esteli Launching Norteño in Late Spring

After an auspicious release with the Herrera Esteli cigar line (The Piramide Fino was named Cigar Aficionado's No. 8 cigar of 2013), brand-owner Willy Herrera is looking to launch a new cigar—the Herrera Esteli Norteño. Unlike the original Herrera Esteli line, which is made at the Gran Fabrica Drew Estate, Norteño will be produced in the Joya de Nicaragua factory.

The company says that the switch to the smaller box size creates a friendlier presence for retailers’ valuable humidor shelf space, while at the same time providing a more economical value for consumers.

"This was a cigar that wanted to battle. Whether it was the issues with burn, or the amount of strength it offered, it kept my on my toes. The entire time I smoked it, I kept being brought back to my early years of cigars and the one cigar is reminds me of more than anything is a Liga Privada. The strength, the flavors, and that massive smoke output is right in line with it. It took me back to those days of getting knocked on my rear, surrounded by smoke. Drew Estate has announced that their Liga Privada Unico Serie Papas Fritas will now come in 25-count boxes starting in August. Previously they came in boxes of 50. Liga Privada Unico Serie Papas Fritas measure (115 x 44) and have been around since 2012. The idea behind Papas Fritas was to make a more affordable Liga Privada using mixed filler tobacco. The blend remains unchanged and still features Drew Estate’s signature fantail.
