J.C. Newman is bringing back Yagua this year, again in limited quantities. We reviewed this cigar last year and gave it a 93. The brand goes all the way back to 1940's in the Cuban tobacco fields.
"This was a very good cigar that performed great from beginning to end. Mild to medium in body but packed full of enjoyable flavors. This is a cigar that can easily be enjoyed any time of day. Lots of cocoa, leather, roasted nuts and some white pepper on the retro. I'd recommend this to new and old smokers alike." -Kevin J. (maninblack77)
J.C. Newman Cigar Co.'s latest cigar, José Gaspar Cigars, combines two of Tampa’s world-famous traditions, cigars and Gasparilla. Since 1885, Tampa has been known as “Cigar City.” Starting in 1904, pirates began invading Tampa and throwing a large festival called Gasparilla. Now, two, J.C. Newman Cigar Co. is combining both traditions by releasing José Gaspar cigars.
"Overall, I feel this was an excellent cigar, although on the mild side, the flavor combinations which stayed the same, but transitioned in dominance from third to third, made for an interesting cigar. The silky smooth texture and cool temperature allowed me to take this all the way down to a nub. Although it was a long smoke due to the size, I would definitely consider putting this in my rotation, and I am curious to see what this turns out to be." -Angel M. (Angel)
J.C. Newman has named Aimee Cooks the new Vice President and General Manager of Its Historic El Reloj Cigar Factory. In her new role she will over see cigar manufacturing and distribution. Additionally, she will be responsible for the warehousing and shipping of imported J.C. Newman and Arturo Fuente cigars that are distributed from El Reloj.
"An awesome cigar! Nice notes of sweet and salty mixed with notes of woodiness. Makes me want another. Great late afternoon stick." -Sean F. (fullermaine)
Sanchez y Haya rolled the first cigar in Tampa, Florida exactly 100 years ago this week. This was the first in a long line of cigars to be made in Tampa causing it to be known as “Cigar City” and the “Fine Cigar Capital of the World.” In celebration of this anniversary, J.C. Newman has recreated the original Sanchez y Haya cigars and reintroduced them at a celebration at Hotel Haya in Ybor City. Hotel Haya is located on the site of the original Sanchez y Haya cigar factory in Tampa’s Ybor City historic cigar district.
