The very first Montecristo was rolled in 1935; now 85 years later, Altadis is celebrating this milestone with a new cigar, the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua. This blend is described as a first-ever interpretation of the original blend from 1935 that made Montecristo the icon it is today.
Those involved in blending the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua were Grupo of Maestros, Rafael Nodal and AJ Fernandez. These men worked together in picking the aged tobacco and blending the final product that will pay homage to the original Montecristo cigar. The line will ship November 2020.
“To honor the age-old tradition of soft-pressing cigars, the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua will be introduced as a soft-pressed series of four sizes,” says Nodal, who is Head of Product Capability for Tabacalera USA. “The cigar offers a luxury showcase from seed to smoke that combines classic craftsmanship and extra-aged estate tobaccos from Nicaragua‘s best growing regions.”
The new band uses reflective gold and black colors to call attention to the cigar’s limited production. The box uses unique two-toned wood and reflects both origin and brand aesthetics with Luxe gold branding elements and hardware. Sizes include: Churchill: 7 x 52 $17.50, No 2. 6 1/8 x 52 $16.43, Toro 6 x 54 $15.95, and Demi 5 1/2 x 46 $10.40.
