Last year, Cigar Dojo and Aganorsa Leaf’ collaborated on ReviveR, which scored a 92 in our blind review and ended up on our Top 25 cigars of the year. Now, this year, they have collaborated again on a new project, Bonsai.
Bonsai is a limited edition cigar of which only 350 bundles of 10 will be made. It comes in a single vitola, a 4 x 50 Petite Robusto (or Rothschild).
The name comes from the Japanese art form of miniature tree cultivation going back over 1,000 years. This is in reference to the cigars small stature, which still holds its own against larger cigars. It is said to be a slow smoking cigar. The blend came to life with the help of Terence Reilly (Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Aganorsa Leaf) and Max Fernández (Factory Manager and son of Eduardo Fernández) and uses AGANORSA-grown tobaccos throughout Nicaragua’s Jalapa and Estelí regions. This Nicarguan puro uses a Corojo ’99 wrapper harvested from Jalapa, a Corojo ’99 binder, and Criollo and Corojo fillers from both regions. Bonsai features a unique packaging design with the 10 cigars bundled into a wheel shape, not the typical 5 on 5. This is similar, but smaller, to how factories store cigars when aging. The bundles have Aganorsa Leaf-branded clear rice paper and an oversized Bonsai sticker.

Bonsai will make its debut at the 2019 Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival in Broomfield, Colorado on August 24, 2019. Only 50 bundles will be sold at the event. The remaining 300 bundles will be sold online on August 28th, by online retailer Payless Cigars & Pipes.
