Cigar News: Foundation Cigar to Make The Owl Shop 85th Anniversary Cigar

Foundation Cigar has partnered with The Owl Shop in New Haven, Connecticut to create a special cigar to celebrate their 85th anniversary. The Owl Shop opened in 1934 and offers cigars, coffee, cocktails, food, and even live blues and jazz. The cigar shop is located next to Yale University. The special cigar will be released at an event at the cigar shop September 19th from 7-9pm.

Nicholas Melillo, founder and blender of Foundation Cigars will be at the event. Only 100 boxes of the 85 anniversary cigar have been made. The blend itself appears to be based on the Tabernacle Havana Seed #142 cigar as it shares the same wrapper and binder. Foundation does not usually make private label cigars for shops, but for Nick, this was personal. “I had to make an exception because it’s my hometown. I was born in New Haven and my family has been shopping at The Owl Shop for over 50 years.” says Mellilo.

Glen Greenberg has been the owner and manager of The Owl Shop since 1998. He added, “after 85 years in business and much research, we finally found the perfect relationship with Nick Melillo and Foundation Cigars to create our own Owl Shop Cigar. Through months of collaboration, we have created a unique medium to full-bodied cigar with rich, diverse and balanced flavors of spice, cocoa, leather, and toffee.”
