Cigar News: Foundation Cigars Forms Art Collective The group ATOL Colectivo, under the direction of Alex Garcia (Thief Operandi), is a creative group based in . Their main purpose is to bring art to the masses. Founding members of the Collective Ernesto Salinas (SAL), Enoc Valenzuela (VALMOR) and Carlos Mairena (CARLO) strive to transform urban spaces reflecting the artists’ common reality in a changing and colorful world.

The word ATOL comes from ATL which is a suffix of Nahualt (‘s original language) and translates to ‘water.’ The Nahualt used this root word to guide the meaning back to water, the essential essence of life. Puro atol, is a common expression in modern Nicaraguan language, meaning a mix of different styles.

Cigar Company President, had seen their art around town and went to work to find them out. “I’ve been enjoying the variety of Mural Art since coming to Esteli in 2003 and have always admired the depth of talent and expression reflected by Nicaraguan culture. In a city like Esteli, it’s hard not to get inspired by the abundance of murals and paintings popping up everywhere you see a blank wall or fence. It wasn’t until I began spotting these stimulating expressions that I stopped dead in my tracks.”

“By happenstance, I attended an open house with Alex last year when we discovered it was actually ATOL! We found their pieces so deep, meaningful and resonating, that we began speaking instantly about forming the collective. We’ll be displaying a 55-foot long by 8-foot tall hand-painted mural in our IPCPR booth, along with an art gallery of pieces created by each of the artists, along with VINK and J.A.Williams. The art will be available for purchase at the IPCPR, with all proceeds going directly to the artists.”
