It’s becoming a busy season for Bolivars. The brand has recently been featured not only as a Casa del Habano exclusive (the Bolivar Libertador), but as three Regional Edition smokes. The most recent incarnation is the Bolivar Poderosos, a Regional Edition smoke made exclusively for Belgium and Luxembourg.
The Bolivar Poderosos (which translates to “powerful” from Spanish) is an extra large figurado, measuring 7 1/8 inches long by 54 ring gauge. The vitola is known as a rodolfo in Cuban cigar factories, and it’s a rarity.
The size was once found on the San Cristobal de La Habana Muralla, a regular production cigar that has been discontinued, it was also used on the limited edition Bolivar Gran Belicoso, which was the 2010 Habanos Collection, the limited-edition cigar sold in boxes that resemble books. (A slightly shorter version of this shape can be found on the Cohiba Piramides Extra, a cigar measuring 6 5/16 inches long by 54 ring.)
The Bolivar Poderosos come 25 to the box, in 8-9-8 packaging. In Belgium, they are priced at 505 euros ($690) per box. The secondary band on the cigars reads “Exclusivo Belux,” for Belgium and Luxembourg.
