Cigar Info
My Father quietly released a new cigar this year that is actually sold as part of a humidor purchase, the Humidor Deluxe. The set was made to celebrate Don Pepin García’s 70th birthday. The humidor itself is made by the French company Elie Bleu and the price tag for the humidor with the 100 cigars is an astounding $10,000. The humidor comes with a custom tray, two humidifiers, a hygrometer, and My Father branding inside and out.
The cigar comes in only one size, a 6 1/2 x 52 toro. It is a Nicaraguan puro made from only Pepin tobacco. The only other blend info given is a Corojo 99 wrapper. Only 70 humidors were made for a total of 7,000 cigars.

Pre-light
The wrapper isn’t flawless, but it is very even in color and well applied. The triple cap is just about perfect and the wrapper smells of barnyard and leather. The foot is mostly the same, but a little less leather. I remove the footband and to my delight, none of the wrapper comes off with it. The cold draw tastes like it smells when you walk into an aging room in a cigar factory: good tobacco.
First Third
The first few puffs I get a lot of cedar, but not the typical pepper you expect from a Pepin cigar. Further into the third I start getting a nice caramel note that compliments the cedar. It is still also very earthy and a little musty with just a hint of nut. Towards the end of the third, some black pepper comes into the mix.
Second Third
The burn is just about perfect and the ash is still holding. The flavors haven’t changed much, but that isn’t a bad thing. Still getting cedar and nuts, and now a hint of baking spice. Further in, more baking spices come alive and really take things up a notch in the complexity arena like cinnamon and nutmeg. The third finishes out strong with the backbone of cedar and baking spices and added pepper.
Final Third
Taking the main band off, unfortunately some of the wrapper comes off. The barnyard earthiness from the first third is gone now being replaced by baking spices with a backing of cedar. Towards the end of this third the baking spices include allspice cinnamon and nutmeg, it really is quite pleasant.
Overall Impressions
I was prepared to write this cigar off as average based on the first third, but things really came around in the second and final thirds. The addition of baking spices, pepper, and nuts really set things off. I don’t know if the $50 price tag is justified, but this is a really good cigar. It is for sure up there with some of the previous limited edition My Father cigars. I wish I knew what a few months or a year of age would do to this cigar would do but unfortunately I doubt I will ever find out. I was lucky enough to find one of these and this was my only one. If you are able to find one to purchase at a reasonable price, do it. I really enjoyed the full transition of flavors and body from the first to the final third and would recommend this to anyone.
