Blind Cigar Review: Dunbarton T&T | Sin Compromiso Seleccion No. 5 Parejo Initial Impressions

Appearance: 91

“This is a really nice looking cigar that is sporting a dark chocolate colored wrapper leaf that is shining with oils. There are ample veins running the length of the cigar and all seams, with the exception of one small wrinkle at the cap, are tight and basically invisible. The cigar is presented in a soft box press format with definite flat surfaces and gently rounded corners. I particularly enjoy a box press due to the fact that they don’t roll away from me…especially important when I’m deep in my chair and don’t want to go chasing after my cigar as it rolls away.” – (Jokey Smurf)

Aroma: 93

“Clean fermented tobacco aroma. ” – ()

First Third

Flavor: 88
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium

“The flavors I got on the draw were very subtle, but did pick up a sweetness and chocolate. I really enjoyed the retro and got a very smooth but complex black pepper.” – ()

“The initial flavors are zesty with black pepper and espresso notes. Through the nose the smoke is very peppery. Smoke output at the beginning is not very impressive and the cigar requires more attention at this point than I prefer.” – (Jokey Smurf)

Second Third

Flavor: 89
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“Into the second third the cigar has settled nicely into an earth and mildly spicy profile. The smoke has remained thin and takes work to get going but the smoke that I’m getting is very flavorful and is keeping me interested. ” – (Jokey Smurf)

“Second third continued much the same, but I didn’t have a problem with that. The soapy texture kept the flavors lingering on my palate and, as it faded, I craved more. It reminded me of the peat in Islay malts. The retrohale hit on all the major wood notes: oak, cedar, hickory and mesquite.” – (The Nothing)

Final Third

Flavor: 90
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“I really enjoyed the last third especially at the very end. At the last inch I got a burst of flavors, it seemed more balance with chocolate and the pepper plus a few other flavors I couldn’t pick up. I think the true potential of this cigar came out in the last inch.” – ()

“I’m getting a return of the leather flavor with some nice oak along with the coffee/espresso notes. This is big fun. ” – ()

Overall Impressions

Draw: 94

“Fantastic draw. Perfect resistance, and very responsive. ” – ()

Burn: 92

“No problems on the burn. No touch ups and no relights.” –Matt (Mattehh)

Construction: 96

“This is a cigar that I’m certain with a little extra attention could be a contender in a long ash contest. Without trying the first ash lasted beyond the halfway point. Additionally, the excellent burn performance and good draw has me confident that the roller was a master at his trade. I have no complaints in this portion of the review.” – (Jokey Smurf)

Overall Strength: Medium
Overall Body/Complexity: Medium-Full
Experience Overall: 93

“At first I felt the flavors on the draw were too subtle. However, I enjoyed the complexity of the retro throughout this cigar. Once I hit the last inch of this cigar the flavors were on point and I didn’t want to put it out. During the last inch the flavors were very full and tasty. I think with some time on this cigar it will be an amazing smoke.” – ()

“This is a cigar where each portion had it’s merits, but the overall experience could have been better. The flavors, in totality, left me wanting just a bit more. Coupled with the lack of sufficient smoke output, this is a cigar that needed just a bit more work than I was wanting. I’d be willing to give this another try, but as it is, I’m not going to rush out and buy a box, or five pack, any time soon.” – (Jokey Smurf)

“There was something about this cigar. I’m looking forward to the unveiling as I have a feeling that it is something I would normally pass up on the shelf without giving it any thought. What I had, though, was a cigar that brought me through many past experiences through it’s flavors and aromas. I recall the outcome of my mom hearing my curse, and finding out what Dial tastes like. I revisited the peat-smoked aromas of the Ardbeg Distillery in Scotland. This made me remember the Holy Mary I had for lunch a couple of years ago at Freeman’s BBQ in Austin. This cigar took me all over the place. It’s definitely not something I would smoke on a regular basis, but if I’m ever feeling reminiscent, you bet I’ll think about smoking another. ” – (The Nothing)

“I could taste nice flavors underneath but was shrouded by that astringent flavor.” –Matt (Mattehh)

“Loved this. Really well balanced. Great flavors throughout. Really nice rich bold flavors of leather, coffee, and an edge of sweetness. Potent and attention grabbing. ” – ()
