The Quality Importers HygroSet II Digital Hygrometer is a mainstay in many humidors around the world. This prolific hygrometer has been around forever and hasn’t really changed over the years. It doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but does it prove its value in reliability? We’ll dig deeper and find out.
Info – Quality Importers HygroSet II Digital Hygrometer
This version of the Quality Importers HygroSet has been for sale since 2011, and is the second iteration. It comes with a single button calibration and a claimed accuracy of +/- 2-percent for humidity from 20-percent to 90-percent and +/- 1 degree temperature accuracy. It refreshes the display every 10 seconds for a fresh reading. The hygrometer also comes with a double sided tape mount with magnet so you can put it just about anywhere.
Look & Feel
The Hygroset II is simple and efficient, nothing flashy. It has two buttons and one dial. One button is used to switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius, the other is used to calibrate the readings. The dial is used to adjust the calibration. The round and compact shape makes it really easy to put just about anywhere in a humidor, even a travel one. I actually have about 6 of these things scattered around my various humidors and storage bins.
Performance
There aren’t a lot of options to play with here, but the basic operation is straightforward and easy. Switching between Fahrenheit and Celsius couldn’t be much simpler, press the red button. Calibration is quite simple as well. You simply turn the dial the number of clicks you’d like to adjust, one click for each percentage point of humidity, then hold the black button for a couple seconds until it resets. That’s it. For example, if the display is reading 77% humidity, but you know it’s 75%, turn the dial two clicks counter-clockwise and hold the black button. I usually calibrate against a Boveda pack in a sealed container or bag, but you could just as easily to the salt test. I personally have had much better experience with the Boveda calibration than the salt test, but to each their own. I’ve found that the calibration will stay accurate for a years, and the battery will last about as long.
Overall
This isn’t the longest review because there really isn’t much to talk about. It’s a simple hygrometer and it works well. Now, there are other simple hygrometers on the market, but I haven’t found them to be as accurate over the years. There are other hygrometers with more features like WIFI, Bluetooth, alarms, etc. and those definitely have a place, but for a price. If all you need is a simple hygrometer for a reasonable price, this is your guy. I can 100% recommend this unit based on using it for many years and comparing it against a ton of other products. If you need more features, there are definitely other options for you, in fact, check out the Xikar PuroTemp Wireless Digital Hygrometer, which is now also sold by Quality Importers.
