Blind Cigar Review: JRE | Aladino RobustoCigar Info

This cigar is described as a “Classic Old Fashioned Cigar” by Julio R. Eiroa, father of Christian Eiroa of CLE Cigar. Aladino is a pure Authentic Corojo cigar grown in The Eiroa Tobacco Farm in Honduras from the original Cuban seed of Corojo. These cigars are medium strength and represent The Golden Era of cigars in Cuba from 1947-1961, with its traditional sizes, and also available in a 60 x 61/2 (Gordo) for the more contemporary smoker. Today we are reviewing the JRE | Aladino Robusto

This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience.

Aladino’s name goes back to the 1970s. There was a well known movie theater in Danli, Honduras known as El Cine Aladino. This theater was operated by Christian and Justo Eiroa’s grandfather. Today Aladino is also the name of a factory owned by Christian Eiroa that is in the same location as the movie theater.

Blind Cigar Review: JRE | Aladino RobustoInitial Impressions

Appearance: 90

“It’s a really nice looking robusto size cigar. The color is a nice medium brown, caramel shade. The wrapper surface has a gentle sheen of oil and some a few small veins. It feels evenly packed and has a nicely applied cap.” –Matthew T. (A Huge Nerd)

Aroma: 90

“The aroma is basic tobacco with hints of cedar and being spices.” –Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)

First Third

Flavor: 93
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“Right off the bat, Sample 615 has a ton of damn flavor. Exhale is copious amounts cream, bubblegum, and Jalapa spice/sweetness qualities. Finish is straight wet cedar on the palate. Body/Complexity Medium-Full. Strength Medium. Retro matches nicely with cream, wet cedar, bubblegum and a very sharp black pepper gives me damn shivers. I’m loving this cigar right now. Burn is a little wavy but still very good.. combustion is perfect. Ash is fairly dense.. no flowering.. I am beginning to doubt myself that there is Dominican tobacco in this blend. Ripe cherry and citrus now enter the ballgame.” –Matt C. (Big Matt)

“Nice sweet cedar with some cream. Little bit of white pepper on the tongue. Very little pepper on the retro in the beginning. Toward the end of the first third pepper picks up on the retro.” –Zane G. (Zane)

Second Third

Flavor: 91
Strength: Medium-Strong
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“The main flavor profile remains very consistent in the middle third. That said, a few nice additions come in to join the party. Charred wood. Some mild citrus notes. Hints of cocoa and spices. Those spices are present on the retrohale.” –Matthew T. (A Huge Nerd)

“Exhale is delicious cream, sandalwood, and the perfect amount of spice and sweetness. Extremely balanced. Citrus and slightly bitter ripe cherry twang flirt in and out of the profile. The intense black pepper dials back on the retro allowing the wet cedar, cream and bubblegum duke it out for dominance like a pissed off grizzly bear.” –Matt C. (Big Matt)

Final Third

Flavor: 88
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“Exhale is cream, vanilla, bubblegum, sandalwood, perfect amount of sweetness and spice. Cherry and citrus have left the building. Very balanced cigar. Highly rewarded if you let this cigar rest. Black pepper returns like she began on the retro fucking my day up perfectly. Awesome premium cigar.” –Matt C. (Big Matt)

“The final third shifts to a primary leather component that is running over any other flavors that are trying to present themselves.” –Zane G. (Zane)

Experience Overall: 91

“Construction excepting, this was not an enjoyable cigar at all for me. I did manage to finish it but I would not wish to try another.” –Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)

“I was very pleased with the flavorful complexity, intense and rich smoke, and unique twist from the anise flavor that I got from this cigar. It was a nice burner and a flavorful experience from start to finish. I am very curious to find out more about this cigar.” –Matthew T. (A Huge Nerd)

“This cigar was fantastic and kept my interest throughout the entire experience. Exhale was delicious cream, sandalwood, and the perfect amount of spice and sweetness. Citrus and slightly bitter ripe cherry twang flirt in and out of the profile. The retrohale provided varying levels of black pepper, wet cedar, cream and bubblegum. I will be buying a ton of these cigars if readily available and putting them in my regular rotation.” –Matt C. (Big Matt)

“I really really wanted to love this cigar. I enjoyed the first third and thought it was producing a good mellow flavor experience. Throughout the cigar I had constant issues with keeping it lit/the cigar burning properly. I think that directly caused the loss of flavor and what really ended with me wishing I had another sample to try.” –Zane G. (Zane)
