Joya de Nicaragua announced a new vitola in their Número Uno line: Le Premier, a 6 ⅞ x 48 Churchill. Número Uno began as a cigar only offered to World Leaders by Nicaraguan ambassadors, in 2018 a small amount of bundles were sold at Joya de Nicaragua events, and in 2019 the cigar saw a limited release to the world earning the #8 spot on our top 25 cigars of 2019 list. Número Uno is part of the Obras Maestras, or "Masterpieces" collection meaning Joya's top of the line offerings.
Dr. Alejandro Martínez Cuenca, Chairman of Joya de Nicaragua, has been a fan of the game Shut the Box since 2012. He learned of the game at a cigar shop, Havana Mix Shop in Memphis, TN, and was challenged to a game. Cuenca has a PhD in Economics and has always been fascinated with numbers and games with numbers. Joya De Nicaragua has announced the Antaño Gran Reserva GT20, a special version of its Antaño Gran Reserva line. The original Antaño goes back to 2001 when the cigar was once considered the strongest in the world, and set the path for Nicaraguan grown for years. The GT20 celebrates the 20th Anniversary of that release.
Joya de Nicaragua released the Cinco Décadas line two years ago to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Last year it added the Fundador vitola and now this year it is adding El Doctor, a 6 x 52 torpedo.
Over the past few years, Nicaraguan cigars, including Joya de Nicaragua have broken in to the Asian market and gained popularity. Now, Joya de Nicaragua has partnered with Hong Kong based Cigraal, Joya de Nicaragua's exclusive distributor for China, Hong Kong, Macau and Vietnam, to launch an exclusive cigar for the Asian market, Cuatro Cinco - Edición Asia.
This year, Joya de Nicaragua has shipped two TAA exclusive cigars: Antaño Gran Reserva Presidente and Selección de Torcedor. The Antaño Gran Reserva Presidente returns from 2018 unchanged. The Selección de Torcedor is a new release but is only available with the purchase of the Gran Reserva as a 5-pack.
Joya de Nicaragua is celebrating Central America’s Bicentennial with a new Limited Edition Cigar: Dos Cientos. This month is the 200th anniversary of Central American independence from the Spanish empire. Following independence in Latin America and throughout the Caribbean, the American Revolution and French Revolution, Central Americans won their right to self-government and began the process of creating the nations of Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
