"I won't lie; I have a love-hate relationship any time I come across a lancero. When done properly, they're typically the best means of expressing a profile for me. The problem is the consistency overall with them. Some require constant relighting if you're not tending to it perfectly with your draws, some burn super hot when you do, others draw like you're trying to suck a marble through a straw. None of these experiences are ideal in my book. Fortunately, this one gave me none of these problems. It was a nice profile mix of chocolate and cinnamon with some heavy doses of pepper starting out. I'd be willing to smoke it again, but probably not enough to run out and pick up a box or two. " -Doug S. (Unpossible_1)
"This cigar was exactly what I needed right now. Lots of sweet creams and cedar notes to hold my attention while throwing in hints of cinnamon here and there to really keep me on my toes. It stayed right at a mild to medium in strength from beginning to end. I would definitely like to have more of these on hand, and I bet this would pair amazingly with your morning coffee. 2017 was a big year for Southern Draw Cigars. Robert Holt introduced both the Rose of Sharon and Jacobs ladder, each earning a spot on our Top 25. Now Southern Draw has added a lancero vitola to the Rose of Sharon lineup.
"This is a stick worthy of making a box purchase on after only experiencing one. I'm typically not much of a lancero guy, but this was a great stick, and one that I am very anxious to smoke again." -Dave (mdwest)

·"If I were to make my own cigar, it would look much like this. It was almost painful to put this cigar down. The savory qualities kept me coming back to it, distracting me from other things (like the kiddo crying about her ball rolling into the street.) It wouldn't be hard to put this cigar into regular rotation, and when this is posted, I'll probably find a box. While there wasn't a whole lot of transition in flavors, what flavors it has keeps you coming back for more." -Isaac M. (The Nothing)
"It is a great lancero. The flavors were bold and crisp with enough strength to provide body and depth. I realize that I forgot to mention this earlier but the smoke output was fantastic and the ash had a constant plume of smoke coming off of it. It's an easy recommendation for me and worth picking up a fiver. " -Alan (Eulogy)
"This was the loss of sweetness in the final third away from being my favorite thing I have smoked for BMP. Looks great, smokes great, and tastes great. I’d be interested in smoking this in a Robusto if available, because while I liked everything about the flavor experience - I’d have preferred a bit shorter smoking time. " -Bill C. (Bill)
"Aside from a couple minor touch-ups, the burn was good throughout. Considering how oily the wrapper was, that was pretty impressive. The ash was somewhat flaky, but it's a lancero so that was expected." -Matthew T. (A Huge Nerd)
Back in November of 2017, Blind Man's Puff published the blind panel review of the Protocol Themis by Cubariqueño Cigar Co. The cigar was a hit with our panelists, scoring a 91 averaged across the 5 panelists who reviewed it. Now, to continue that line, they are introducing this tasty cigar in a fan-favorite Lancero vitola. This new cigar will be officially introduced next month at the 2018 IPCPR trade show in Las Vegas.
The draw on this cigar was a bit tight, but not tight enough to affect the smoke, which is common of most cuban cigar, and lancero cigars. The burn was perfect, never had to touch it and the construction was fabulous, especially holding up like this for 31 years. While this wasn't the most flavorful or complex cigar, it was elegant and nuanced. I was worried before smoking and during the first third that this cigar might have aged out being 31 years old, but she definitely still has some life in her and it was a pleasure and a privilege to smoke such an aged cigar.
