Cigar Info
Earlier this year Davidoff announced it was bringing back a retired cigar from its White Band Collection, the Davidoff Millennium Lancero Limited Edition Collection. The blend uses an Ecuadorian 151 hybrid wrapper, Mexican binder, and the filler uses four different Dominican tobaccos.
This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience.
The company says that it took the company’s master agronomists 300 trials to create the hybrid seed for the Ecuadorian wrapper leaf used on the cigar. The Davidoff Millennium Lancero Limited Edition Collection comes in just one size, a 7 x 40 lancero. Each cigar has an MSRP of $29.00 or $290 for a box of 10. Production was limited to 5,000 boxes for the U.S. market.
This is the second of four Limited Edition Collections Davidoff will re-release as part of its “Cigar History Re-Rolled” campaign.

Initial Impressions – Davidoff Millennium Lancero Limited Edition Collection
Appearance: 95
“Nice looking lonsdale/lancero. Little thicker than some lanceros, but definitely well under a 50 ring. Neat pigtail, mottled wrapper with neat clean seems.” –Bill C. (Bill)
Aroma: 94
“Strong sweet cedar notes at the cap that transitions to a sweet earthy flavor at the foot.” –Chad M. (Chad Tchad)
First Third
Flavor: 94
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium
“Clipped the pigtail off and carefully toasted the foot. I noticed the draw was a bit snug which I find normal with this vitola. But I was getting some lovely notes of coffee and leather as well as dark chocolate. It was a very enjoyable first third. Another issue I have is that if you don’t pay attention to lanceros they tend to go out quickly due to the small ring gauge. So I nursed it as much as I could.” –Kevin J. (maninblack77)
“The opening puffs are full of fresh ground coffee beans. As it gets going a nutmeg and cinnamon start to build on the center of my tongue. The retrohale has a heavy vegetal note to it. The end of the third morphs into a wonderful soft-baked cookie. The mouthfeel is medium to medium-full. The finish is super long with cinnamon continuing to tingle the palate well after the smoke is gone.” –Estevan Z. (TheRealBanzi)
Second Third
Flavor: 94
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium
“The generic tobacco flavor falls away as the cedar and earth increase in intensity. Creaminess transforms into a syrupy sweetness. A really nice flavor package. Retrohale adds a little sharpness to the flavor and has less sweetness. Tastes like a nice humidor smells.” –Bill C. (Bill)
“The flavor is pretty consistent through the second third. The earth has begun to lean slightly more on the mineral side but the milk chocolate stays the prominent flavor.” –Lauren S. (Lauren S.)
Final Third
Flavor: 93
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium
“Much as the second third, the final third was full of those same flavors: leather, cocoa, coffee, and a nice spice on the tongue. The draw tightened up a bit near the end but nothing too bad. The burn was also a bit hot. I tend to smoke these too quickly due to my usual experiences with robustos or torpedoes.” –Kevin J. (maninblack77)
“Consistent is the word for this blend. The flavor profile is still mainly milk chocolate with a background of solid mineral earth. As a slight changeup, I did start to get just a hint of red pepper in the final couple inches that I wish had shown up earlier.” –Lauren S. (Lauren S.)
Overall Impressions – Davidoff Millennium Lancero Limited Edition Collection
Draw: 94
“The draw was great for a hard-to-roll blend, though I did have to cut it as just pulling the pigtail did not open it up enough.” –Lauren S. (Lauren S.)
Burn: 91
“Straight even burn with no re-lights. The ash would only stay on 1 cm at a time.” –Chad M. (Chad Tchad)
Construction: 95
“Well made, pretty looking cigar.” –Bill C. (Bill)
Overall Strength: Medium
Overall Body/Complexity: Medium
Experience Overall: 94
“Overall 2/3rds of the smoke was on point with rich roasted earthy notes with coffee and sweet cedar coming into play at times. Retrohale was really hot with red and white pepper and was surprised how hot the retrohale was. The last 1/3rd however the flavors faded and were very light.” –Chad M. (Chad Tchad)
“I’m in the minority of cigars smokers that love, and smoke, this style of cigars. This example is a fine representation of what a small ring gauge cigar can be. The intensity of flavor is showcased from the moment I lit it up. All of the flavors work well together and there are noticeable transitions throughout the entire smoking experience. This is a cigar for an educated palate. A cigar that you will remember.” –Estevan Z. (TheRealBanzi)
“This was the loss of sweetness in the final third away from being my favorite thing I have smoked for BMP. Looks great, smokes great, and tastes great. I’d be interested in smoking this in a Robusto if available, because while I liked everything about the flavor experience – I’d have preferred a bit shorter smoking time.” –Bill C. (Bill)
“The flavors were definitely on point with this and while this vitola isn’t one I gravitate to, it was an enjoyable cigar. I don’t think I’ve had a lancero without a tight draw even after dry boxing which is a big reason I don’t buy them. But fans of this size will enjoy the flavors in this cigar.” –Kevin J. (maninblack77)
“This was a pretty solid blend and a decently performing lancero. While not a very complex cigar it was very consistent. Milk chocolate was the star, along with a steady background of earth. Near the end, strength picks up just a touch along with the slightest taste of red pepper. I’d likely revisit this in the future again, as it’s just a good solid consistent stick.” –Lauren S. (Lauren S.)
