Blind Cigar Review: Plasencia | for Davidoff of Geneva Since 1911 Initial Impressions

Appearance: 90

“I nice medium brown 6″ torpedo with a just a tiny bit of oil sheen on the wrapper. A very nice looking stick. ” –Dave W. (mdwest)

Aroma: 90

“Rich tobacco, white pepper, salt and stone fruit are found on the foot. The wrapper and predraw are a mix of tobacco and leather.” –Alan (Eulogy)

First Third

Flavor: 90
Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“I am liking this cigar. It started off very strong but after a fewm minutes settled into nice smokey wood flavors with hints of nuts. The only thing missing is that wonderful peppery burn on the tongue and palate. If I set the cigar down for a few minutes I then get some after tastes of dark chocolate.” –Eric (smalls29)

“The flavor profile isnt anything like what I expected based on the pre-light aroma. I get woody notes and hints of cinnamon hiding in the background. An interesting combination. ” –Dave W. (mdwest)

Second Third

Strength: Medium
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“The second third gets better than the first. The notes of berries and black licorice continue, but the overall mixture is just perfectly balanced. A slight introduction of wet grass and earth makes a quick appearance, but subsides rather fast. The most pleasant thing about this cigar is that it is burning so smoothly and smoking so well, I kind of forget that I am reviewing it and I find myself sitting back and truly enjoying the whole experience.” –Steve (ThaGreatWazoo)

“Coffee, cinnamon, nuts, caramel, and leather are all present from the previous third. There’s a shifting in the profile as each searches for the lime light though and it adds a certain complexity even with the same core flavors. At the halfway point the cinnamon is replaced by an oily red pepper but it’s not enough to drown out the other flavors. ” –Alan (Eulogy)

Final Third

Blind Cigar Review: Plasencia | for Davidoff of Geneva Since 1911

Flavor: 90
Strength: Medium-Strong
Body/Complexity: Medium-Full

“The woody type notes that have dominated the flavor profile from the beginning seem to have shifted a bit from oak to more of a cedar type taste and aroma. The cigar remains super smooth and silky to the nub. ” –Dave W. (mdwest)

“The final third leaves me saddened because I know my experience is almost over. The profile has shifted to mainly berries and a slight creaminess. A little bit of pepper peaks its head out near the end, but I laugh due to me searching for a nub tool to take this thing to the end. Just such a great cigar and overall performance.” –Steve (ThaGreatWazoo)

Overall Impressions

Draw: 93

“The draw on this cigar was absolutely top notch. I used a straight cut at a slight angle to give it a little character and this cigar rewarded me for it. Lots of nice flavor and smoke without the overwhelming burning or char.” –Steve (ThaGreatWazoo)

Burn: 88

“I’m blown away by how razor sharp this thing burned. I never needed to touch it up or do a relight even when it burned through the exploded section of the wrapper. ” –Alan (Eulogy)

Construction: 93

“Very clearly well built. Aesthetically pleasing, and no performance problems. ” –Dave W. (mdwest)

Overall Strength: Medium-Strong
Overall Body/Complexity: Medium-Full
Experience Overall: 93

“I was excited about the flavors to start but disappointed with the flavors it ended with. The nice smoky wood flavor with hints of dark chocolate in the after taste were wonderful. However, as time went on the flavors moved to a cup of dark black coffe to the end when it tasted like the botton of the pot. The flavors were nicely balanced but ended up being tken over by a bitter taste and after taste.” –Eric (smalls29)

“Having done reviews for a few years, I find myself placing this cigar at the top of all blind reviews that I have completed. From the balance of the aromas and cold draw pre-light to the smooth flavor profile during the entire cigar, this smoking experience was one that I will remember and try to get back to again. The flavor profile was so on point and smooth. The draw was superb and offered the most pleasant amount of smoke and aroma in the air. I found myself forgetting at times about the details I was picking up and instead, sitting back and taking the moment in. That is what a top-tier cigar should do and that is what this cigar is. Well done. ” –Steve (ThaGreatWazoo)

“I would love to have another one that was damaged in transit. The core flavors were excellent, the burn was spot on, flavors were ever changing and interesting all the things that one looks for in a top notch smoke. Do yourself a favor and pick these up. ” –Alan (Eulogy)

“Overall a great smoke. It is rare that I smoke anything down to the point where fingers get singed anymore, but this one was too good to let go. Definitely worthy of making a box purchase. ” –Dave W. (mdwest)
