"Overall this is a pretty good cigar. Construction was fantastic to the point where I considered if it was machine rolled. Absolutely flawless. Very light weight. For a Toro cigar rolled with this precision I would expect more oily and heavier tobacco’s. Not a bad thing, but lead to easier smoke output and a quicker burn. Flavors kept me guessing the whole time and we’re always interesting. Quite different from the beginning of the cigar to the end in a pleasant way. Will definitely smoke this one again." -Adam B. "I’ll be honest… I was a bit put off by the immense size of this cigar. I normally gravitate toward lancero, corona, and robusto sizes so this is definitely out of my comfort zone. Now that I’ve finished it I think I may have been missing out. The large size allowed me to enjoy the nuanced flavors longer and really helped to make me relax and realize how good life is. This is a cigar to spend quality time with and would be excellent paired with high-quality coffee. I would highly recommend this to a friend and would be proud to smoke another very soon!" -Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)
"Though this cigar started a little unbalanced, it definitely kept getting better as I got through it. With a moderate level of complexity, and smooth transitions, it held my interest pretty well. I’d smoke one again, and honestly think that a bit of rest might even out the first third a bit. I’ll be curious to see who produced this blend." -Chris M. (Chris)
This is a cigar that got better as it went along. Plenty of transitions to keep things interesting and one that just begs you to keep retrohaling to experience all of the flavors that it offers. The fuller strength is something that may be better suited for the end of the day or after a meal. The price point fits the experience, so I wouldn't hesitate on pulling the trigger on getting some of these if they are available to you.
This is such a handsome cigar, it was so well constructed. From the wrapper to the roll it was picture perfect. There were no soft spots, burn issues, and the draw was perfect. The ever changing profile kept me fully engaged. This is more of a medium flavor profile with a just slightly above mild strength. If I'm being very nitpicky I personally would have liked a slightly thicker smoke; but it was in no way thin or wispy. From a price stand point this is definitely more of a special occasion cigar but I would highly recommend one.
"This cigar was beautiful and smelled amazing. The opening flavors, likewise, were wonderful and completely piqued my interest. Then, unfortunately, things changed and it became a struggle to finish the cigar as the flavors became rough and the performance absolutely fell off. Based on the beginning I absolutely want to try another. Based on the finish, however, I’ll have to convince myself it’s worth it to give it another try." -Jason H. (Jokey Smurf)
For Brun del Ré, they were showcasing two new offerings, the 1638 Gran Toro Ltd. Edition and the Piccolo.
Byron is a brand from Selected Tobacco Company. It was created by Nelson Alfonso who is a graphic designer that is behind designs for all of the major Cuban brands including the famed Behike. The cigar comes from Costa Rica and the Londinenses vitola is 5.5” x 54. Blend information is undisclosed which is common for all of the brands released by Alfonso.
This is a very good entry cigar into the MBombay portfolio. There is a lot of flavor but not a lot of spice making it a good morning cigar. There was enough transition with the addition of some pepper to keep it interesting. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that enjoys milder cigars or an intro into the MBombay brand.
"If the draw was better I would be signing it praises. With this sample I found the profile to be excellent but the draw and size are a problem. It is a weird feeling to be almost an hour and a half into a cigar and only reach the halfway point. The flavors were good and there were enough profile transitions to keep me engaged though. I would smoke this again but I would have to block out a substantial amount of time to do so." -Alan (Eulogy)
