"One of the best cigars that I have smoked this year if not ever. Construction issues aside, this cigar is amazing. I would smoke this thing every day if I had it. The flavors were on point and the transitions kept this cigar constantly feeling fresh; which is quite amazing considering the shear size of this beast. Go out, buy a box and thank me later. ·"This one ran the spectrum of boldness. It started out with a medium bold taste that grew very bold and biter and then became mild in the final third. I was happy with the consistent flavors of wood and nut throughout which helped maintain some of the enjoyment of this smoke. The second third saw some bitterness come in but it wasn't so bitter that I wanted to out it down. I was surprised by how it mellowed towards the end. Still, all in all, a very nice experience." -Eric (smalls29)
I was impressed with how cool this burned through out. Probably due to the top notch construction and the shape was a bit of a conversation starter. The flavors were clean, although very peppery, and it ended a little stronger in strength than I usually enjoy. Great short smoke on a cold day or if you're in the mood for something a little on the stronger side of strength.
I am very impressed with this cigar overall and wish I had more to smoke. The profile changes kept me engaged throughout and the changes were so dramatic that it almost felt like smoking multiple great cigars. The burn was razor sharp but the foot of the cigar was a little loose which made the smoke output a little thin till the final third.
"I immensely enjoyed this cigar. The quality of flavors, smoke, and construction make this one of the highlights of the year for me. I usually would have to smoke another to make sure it wasn't a fluke, but on this single experience I would highly recommend this cigar to anyone. " -Alan (Eulogy)
Great smoke. I don't know if five years of age makes a huge difference, I never tried this blend when it was released, but I'm sure it didn't hurt. The flavors, construction, and smoke output were all top notch. It didn't hurt that it was such a beautiful day to smoke a cigar. If you can find some, they're certainly worth a purchase.
In all honestly, I don't think I would have liked this as newbie cigar smoker. Rich aged tobacco wasn't something that I was super into when I started smoking and it took time for me to appreciate the nuance and quality. That being said, this cigar has that rich aged tobacco flavor as its main and dominate flavor though out and depending on how much you personally enjoy it will greatly influence your thought of it. As far as burn, construction, and draw they were all top notch. Burned cool and consistence the entire time and the ash looked like stacked nickles. The smoke output was a bit lackluster to me. I enjoy a creamier and thicker smoke myself but it was far from thin. Certainly worth a try but keep a few hours free because it took just under three hours to finish this beast.
It feels like most barber pole cigars are more of a conversation starter in public places. They're nice to look at but they're usually just for looks. This one was both attractive and a great cigar. The draw was perfect. The construction was top notch in terms of roll and ascetics. The flavors were crisp and the transitions kept it interesting through the almost two hours it took to smoke. I'm also more heavily swayed by the quality of smoke as well as the flavors that I get from it. This one delivered on both fronts. Usually, it's pepper that gives most of the bite but this one was much more baking spice which gave it a bit more uniqueness.
"I find myself enjoying this more while reflecting back on it. The flavor profile was a very traditional style Nicaraguan with tobacco, cedar, leather, and pepper but it all worked very well when taken as a whole. The retrohale provided a bit of a break from the draw and even though the draw was a bit tight it was a good cigar for what it was. It's not a game changing cigar but it's a solid smoke and certainly worth your time. " -Alan (Eulogy)
This is such a handsome cigar, it was so well constructed. From the wrapper to the roll it was picture perfect. There were no soft spots, burn issues, and the draw was perfect. The ever changing profile kept me fully engaged. This is more of a medium flavor profile with a just slightly above mild strength. If I'm being very nitpicky I personally would have liked a slightly thicker smoke; but it was in no way thin or wispy. From a price stand point this is definitely more of a special occasion cigar but I would highly recommend one.
